Default Kiffin/UT: Is the joke gonna be on everyone else?

You know, I've just noticed....for a 1st year coach at a program that is down, in a state that traditionally produces very little outstanding high school football talent....Lane Kiffin is doing a heck of a job.

Not that they are piling up wins or anything. But....

They beat Georgia, and talked trash about it.
They beat South Carolina, soundly, after talking trash about their players pumping gas after graduation.
They played a very respectable game vs #1 Florida, and actually had people questioning the Gators early in the season when UF was supposedly going to beat them by 50.
They absolutely should've beaten #1 Alabama. Shoulda coulda woulda......2 blocked FG's by a 400 pound DL just isn't supposed to happen.

The SEC better pay attention. Kiffin is gonna take the UGA/USC wins, and the UF/UA "shouldas" into recruits living rooms and who knows what could happen. He's a young, charismatic coach, and he has one of the greatest defensive minds in football at coordinator, along with the huge publicity the school will get when Eric Berry gets drafted very high, some say even overall #1 pick.

Some things are lining up in Knoxville. They're gonna sell Tebow's departure and Spurriers lack of success. They're gonna sell the UGA win. And above all else, they're gonna sell a chance to play early and get drafted high under a defense led by former NFL coaching great Monte Kiffin.

It makes me wonder.....why would any coach WANT to coach in the SEC. IMO by far the best collective group of coaches anywhere in the country.

Sadly, I tend to agree with most of what you said. If they can keep that coaching staff together and recruit as well as it seems they will, it's only a matter of time before they are back to being a top ten program. I just hope that Tennessee's rise affects Georgia more than Florida. And with Tebow moving on after this season, the SEC East is about to get interesting, no doubt.

Totally agree.

He lost the battle, but may have won the war (recruiting) with the Floirda game.

He is certainly lining up a lot of positives.

Yeah. Guys, back in the late 90's until about 2002 I looked at what Jim Leavitt was doing at 1-AA South Florida and had the same feeling. That USF was about to become relatively big news in Florida and I said within 10 years they'd overtake one of the big 3 in Florida, which they have now with FSU. They still got a ways to go.....but got the same feeling about them.

Now UT has much more to use as far as money, tradition, facilities, etc. You know sometimes you just get a funny feeling about a program and staff? Like you just know, good or bad, that they are gonna be big. I can't put my finger on it, but something about Lane and Monte Kiffin at UT, talking trash and mostly backing it up.......the SEC better take note. And am I the only one who liked the black UT jerseys? Kiffin is brining attitude and, gasp, swagger to Tennessee. They always had tradition and talent under Fulmer. But now they have swagger, attitude and physical play. Dangerous combination. But, I hope they do well. I've always been a Monte Kiffin fan. His Tampa 2 is such a great defense.

If they just miss the FG's then you are right.
When you block two FGs and make two 50 yarders of your own, then you out played them.(three wins in a row)

The SEC is place where the best coaches come.
When you make it here, you win it all.

ya, I agree...it seems as though Lane Kiffen brought a ton of NFL guys to the college level...sort of reminds me of USC when Pete Carroll came on
