Default What former CFB players do you miss the most?

With Tim Tebows career winding down, I gotta say I'm gonna miss the guy. What a classy and inspirational kid, whether you like UF or not, he's a great role model for young players. So, I thought, what college players do you miss the most from past years? By position or conference or whatever, heres a quick trip down memory lane:

LB Derrick Brooks, FSU- This guy was a monster. Just a missile. He embodied everything old school FSU defense was about. And as classy a man as ever played the game.

DL Warren Sapp, Miami- The icon of Miami swagger. No one with a gut as glorious as his should be as agile as he was. I could watch him play all day, and his personality was great! Always talking and smiling. He's also an NFL'er I miss. Sapp vs Favre was epic.

DB Charles Woodson, Michigan- The term "baller" fits no one better than it did him. Just an absolute playmaker.

QB Tommy Frazier, Nebraska - What a nightmare. When he lined up behind center, defensive coordinators lost 2 years off their lifespans. Leadership like few have ever had.

WR Randy Moss, Marshall - He was 1-AA, but it was so much fun watching a guy that was such a mismatch for everyone. And the striped socks were just awesome.

OL Group award- 2001 Miami - Probably the most underrated or even underhyped group ever. The Miami 01 offensive line was, IMO, among the best ever. They were just unbelievable, especially pass blocking. For as good as that team was, how many "skill" position guys went on to shine in the NFL??? Not many. That OL was ridiculous.

RB Bo Jackson, Auburn - How could it be anyone else. Bo Jackson. Watching him play, and hearing the rumors of his true 40 time......we all just knew he would change the NFL forever. Too bad. But at Auburn, he was God-like!!

Those are just a few. Just hoping everyone can throw in a few more names and memories from the past.

From my biased POV:

QB Joe Hamilton - Absolute leader of the GT offense. Rarely rattled on the field. Led the team to comeback wins so many times.

not from so long ago... But, I doubt I will EVER feel as confident about my football team as I did when Vince Young was on the field for his senior season.

Didn't matter what the score was... or how much time was left... Super Man, with the orange cape, would get it done!

The guy I liked the most though... was Earl Campbell. He was "aw shucks"....and mosey along... looked like he could barely move... till you put that football in his stomach. Then? LOOK OUT! He would run through you, over you, around you... out run you.. jump you... whatever he had to do.

It's sad now to see the toll his violent style has taken on his body. But... wow... what a show.

Hamilton and Young, ah yes, two classics. Both showed leadership that carried their teams to great success.

Default Well....

I'll actually be glad to see Tebow move on but that's just me!!

Several Ohio State players I miss tremendously are...

1. Chris Spielman - I loved Hawk and Laurenaitis and they may have had more athletic ability but give me a team of 11 Chris Spielman's and I know I'd never have to worry about my team playing with passion and heart.

2. Eddie George - Loved watching the guy run - he was a specimen.

3. Ted Ginn Jr. - He could take it the distance every time he touched the ball. A guy would be right behind and by the time they got tot the end zone Ted would be 15 yards ahead of him.

4. Chris Gamble - guy played both ways for most of the 2002 season and in my opinion was the key to OSU going undefeated that year.

5. Antoinne Winfield - incredible college DB.

Some other oldies; Cris Carter and of course, Archie Griffin.

Well despite what happened to him after he graduated, Mike Vick was the most electrifying player I ever saw live. Bruce Smith is another player that was unbelievable to watch. Teams double-teamed him, and he'd still get a couple sacks per game. Corey Moore for his intensity. Actually, my list is pretty long.

I hadn't responded, because I reckon my first answer would be a bit on the predictable side. But just to make it interesting, I'll say not just Herschel Walker, but Herschel Walker the freshman. There was a grace and beauty to that guy's runs during his first year. Sure he could break off some long ones his sophomore and junior years, but mostly, it was pound, pound, pound out the yards because nobody could stop him. Also, there was a certain sense of freedom and abandon that seemed to disappear after his freshman year. I've often wondered if having his shoulder dislocated early in the Sugar Bowl (oh, let me be more specific and say the 1981 Sugar Bowl, since he played in three) against Notre Dame sort of tempered something in his spirit as a player. Who knows? But that freshman year, when I was a freshman in high school and watching him from Section 130, it was an amazing thing.

I miss David Pollack. He was a beast. 36 career sacks (plus a 0-yard interception return for a touchdown). And he was an inspiration and leader and motivator for his teammates. He was, as we say, a Damn Good Dog.

I'd like to add a new rule to this thread.... AFTER you post your homer picks... What player(s) do you miss the most from OTHER teams??

For me... there's a bunch... But,

Hey Jim.. from OU... Joe Washington... aka, "The ghost"... or something like that. The guy just VANISHED from the backfield and re-appeared 20 yards downfield... he was the definition of "elusive"...

That Simpson guy was pretty good too.... till he killed his ex-wife.

Dang I forgot all about Corey Moore!!!! Now that was a fun DE to watch play! What was he, like 5 foot 10, 210 pounds or something.....but NOBODY could block the guy!!! My dream DE duo for a college team would be Corey Moore and Dwight Freeney (at Freeney's Syracuse weight). Something about watching undersized DE's just terrorize an OL is so much fun.

Haha, yeah, that kinda hurts the old reputation doesn't it!

Anyone remember South Carolina QB Steve Taneyhill? He was a decent player, but my God what a mullet. He sported the mullet that came down out of the helmet, all the way to the name plate on the jersey some days. No other QB embodied the spirt of the state of South Carolina better than Taneyhill........and he was a Pennsylvanian at that!!!!
