A few programs are about to have openings in the near future, and some coaches, NFL and college, are about to be jobless or retired. So, what coach/college matchups would you dream of seeing? Here are a few of mine:
Bill Cowher @ Michigan, Penn St or even Pitt: I think Bill Cowher would be a legend in college. My God, he just has the college look and attitude. Him at Michigan or Penn St would be freakin' awesome. He fits into that blue collar mentality so well with those schools. Or, even at Pitt. How cool would that be for him to be at Heinz Field again, with a less stressful job? I think he could make Pitt a top 10 team, Michigan or PSU an NC team.
Paul Johnson @ Nebraska: If anyone can turn the Huskers back into the old Huskers, it is Johnson. He turned Georgia Southern into a 1-AA dynasty, turned Navy into a winner, and his option offense is amazingly effective. Perfect fit at Nebraska.
Marvin Lewis @ Florida State: FSU is hurting, and Bowden is retiring soon. Lewis could shape that defense in the mold of his 2000 Ravens D, and having a black head coach could keep some of those Florida recruits at FSU instead of them getting away to UF, Miami, USF or out-of-state.
Bill Parcells @ Syracuse: The Tuna at the Cuse is a long shot, but his New York attitude would be a good fit there and bring the program some much needed attitude and publicity. But, I'm not sure if Parcells has the mindset for recruiting. Can't see him stroking an ego of a cocky 17 year old. Maybe his downfall if he was in college coaching.
Bill Belicheck @ any college: He seems to be the only coach in the NFL that can get the egos of NFL'ers in check and make them play as a team. Imagine what he could do with college players. No way it would ever happen though. He's got ultimate job security and banking the cash!!
Butch Davis @ Miami: Had Butch Davis stayed at Miami, he may be in the position Pete Carroll is now. He was absolutely cleaning house in recruiting. The Southern Cal dynasty may never have taken place had Davis stayed at Miami. The talent he was pulling was unreal- but he took the NFL bait. Watch out for UNC in the next few years. Watched the UNC vs Miami game. Unbelievable how many true freshmen were playing, and making big plays, for the Tarheels. They are going to get good quick. Too bad Davis isn't still at Miami. They'd have 3-4 NC's by now, IMO, if he stayed.
Anyway, thats just a few.
