I've always thought it was pretty clever to integrate the 11 within the BIG TEN...those Big 10 schools sure are smart :D

The Big Ten released that logo with much publicity about the 11 being incorporated into the type shortly after Penn State joined the Big Ten. I believe that logo has been around since about 1990. I remember that there was a lot of talk of renaming the conference the Big 11 or to something else but the thought was that it would expand to 12 (Notre Dame) and it would have to be re-named again. However, that has not happened and that logo has been used for 15+ years now. I always thought they should have renamed it the Northern Coast Conference (NCC for short).

One more thing, the Big Ten is never spelled out using a number. The Big Ten Conference released a memo stating that the conference name is "Big Ten" and not "Big 10". The Big 12 or Pac-10 use numbers but the Big Ten does not.
How about this. The Big Ten uses "whole numers" instead of "real numbers". That way it looks like this...
0. Illinois
1. Indiana
2. Iowa
3. Michigan
4. Michigan State
5. Minnesota
6. Northwestern
7. Ohio state
8. Penn State
9. Purdue
10. Wisconsin
Ya see, it goes up to 10 but with 11 teams!

Wait a minute. Is that an LSU and FSU fan and alum joking about the intelligence of Big 10 schools. Most of the students at LSU or FSU could never get accepted into the top half of Big Ten schools.

That isn't an "11", its two ones because we always have multiple champions.

I thought you'd like it. :D
i think the new acc one is funny. they had to actually change the old circle one into an oval so they could fit bc and miami in. look at the gap in those two. the acc will never be the same with a school in the northeast as a member.

Why not call it "The Big North?"

I'm curious, what is the distance between Boston College and Miami (FL) and between the Washington based schools and the Arizona based schools in the Pac-10?

The Big 10 might have to change their logo soon if they add a new team

1609 miles from Seattle to Tucson, 1512 from Chestnut Hill to Coral Gables.
1636 from El Paso to Huntington for UTEP and Marshall to play.
In the old Sun Belt, Florida International vs. Idaho was 3137, and none of this is as long as Hawaii vs. Louisiana Tech.
That's driving of course, I don't now where to find air distances.

Boston to Miami is almost 1500 miles by road.
Seattle to Tucson is a little over 1600 by road.
The ACC and the Pac-10 can have polar-opposites in weather on the same day (Miami v Boston or Tucson v Pullman)

I've seen flurries in Lexington, Kentucky and warm weather in Gainesville on the same Saturday and in the Big 12 I've seen bitterly cold weather in Lincoln, NE while it was warm in Austin, TX on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
