Auburn is in rebuilding mode, obviously. I was wrong about Cox. He just never got better. He did good in 2005 but never grew with the offense. Nobody can run the football with 8 guys in the box. BC just cant throw the football down the field and CANT throw a 15 yard out so the safties only have 1 area to really cover. OL played better and our RB's look to have a very bright future (if they don't fumble). Kudos to the defense. 5 turnovers and allow zero points. They got gased and it was over. I will back TT and believe what he says but not going for the win was bush league. 2 timeouts 30+ seconds and 3rd down. Anyways, congratulations to all the South FLorida fans out there. Your defense is fast and that Grothe kid may play on Sunday one day. WAR EAGLE!!!

FWIW I think Brandon Cox is holding back the growth of this football team. I see upside at every area on this football team except his. Its sad but it may take a few more mild upsets like Saturday night to let it sink into Tuberville's head that Cox will not be here next season. Get somebody else some snaps. At least a few.

I knew it was over when Auburn didn't call time-out before the USF field goal which tied the game. Here is the last set of downs by USF before the tying fg.

1-10-@AUB10 (2:04) Mike Ford rushed for 2 yards.
2-0-@AUB8 (1:51) Matt Grothe passed incomplete to Amarri Jackson.
3-0-@AUB8 (1:42) Matt Grothe passed to Jessie Hester Jr. for 6 yards.
4-0-@AUB2 (1:42) SFL was penalized 5 yards.
4-0-@AUB7 (0:55) Delbert Alvarado made a field goal of 19 yards.

Notice that Auburn let the clock wind down to 55 seconds and they still had 3 time outs. That pretty much told me Auburn had no confidence in the offense TT wanted to go to overtime where he hoped his kicker would win the game over USF's kid that had missed earlier kicks. Only problem is USF went for it on 4th down and made it instead of relying on the kid. Game over 2 plays later.

I'm an old foggie and one of my favorite movies is "Patton". In the opening scene he is standing in front of a giant American Flag addressing some of his men. At one point he says,

"...Now there's another thing I want you to remember. I don't want to get any messages saying that "we are holding our position." We're not holding anything. Let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose!"

That was one of the great things about Spurrier, he was like Patton, he NEVER let up. If there was time on the clock he was trying to WIN. Some people never really understood that. At some point when UF had a big enough lead he might call off the dogs. However, IF you expect mercy you had better send in your second string and then he would also. BUT, if the other team still had their 1st string in and were actively trying to score he wasn't the kind to sit back and LET them score. Also when he did send in the 2nd or 3rd strings they would STILL run the Fun N Gun offense. He believed that they needed practice in running UF's offense not practice running some else's offense or practice tacking a knee. If JoPa had that thinking he might have changed the final results in 1994 when he allowed Indiana and Illinois to score late touchdowns which made the games appear closer than they really were.

Well apparently Kodi Burns is getting some practice reps. From what I understand, if Auburn was to give him game time, it would be like Florida last year.

Burns is getting the redshirt this season. I could be wrong but thats my take. With Emsinger transfering to La Tech that means Neil Caudle is the best bet at playing time this season. Fields must really suck if he hasnt gotten any PT yet.

Don I agree with you on the TT aspect of letting the clock wind down. Seemed like he was admitting defeat. As bad as it sounds he may need to lose a few to get the pressure back on him. Nothing motivates a coach like pressure. FWIW He has won 36 of his last 42 so he isnt going anywhere.

Precisely why Penn State didn't win or share the 1994 MNC. The Indiana game was the difference. That team was so stacked with NFL talent!

did Spurrier call off the dogs against CMU in 1997? think the score was like 82-9..There comes a point when you spare the other team some dignity..

222- ??? I believe. They scored on every posession. Supposedly it was in retaliation for Cumberland beating G Tech bad in baseball the year before.

Strange (and perhaps apocryphal, but believable nonetheless) trivia: How many first downs did both teams make, total, in that 1916 Tech-Cumberland game (changes of possession excluded)?

This was an AFLAC trivia question in one game last year, everyone I was with guessed a high number, I had it right though!

Zero.
