View Full Version : Anyone witness the complete travesty: USA vs. Slovenia?

I know a lot of Americans don't care much for soccer, but this has to piss off even the uninterested fan. I'm convinced this referee was paid off. There could be no other explanation for how he officiated that game. To steal the American's goal, after they fought so hard from an 0-2 deficit is criminal.

If this had happened to a team from any other country, that referee's life could be at risk. Lucky for him, the USA doesn't care that much.

In case you missed it, here are some lowlights...including the mysterious disallowed goal, which the referee never explained (who knew they didn't have to explain their calls?)

....awful phantom foul call!...they are explaining this one away saying it was the refs first world cup game...so what???...soccer is soccer...u.s. up against it now....why are there such long gaps between games in this tournament?

I took off work today to watch that game, and the US Open at Pebble...

It was a HORRIBLE call. Not only did the US not foul anyone, we had no less than three players BEING FOULED by Slovenia on the play.

If that ref wasn't bought.. then, he's blind and should never ref again.

Even the British announcers admitted it.

That would have been such a rush to have the US come back from 0-2 on the same field where we let Brazil off the hook. And, we'd be in the driver's seat in our division with the win... what a shame.

BTW>>> Soccer players are wimps, over-actors, and general p*ssies.

Well, I'm pretty much a die-hard World Cup fan that that was absolutely heartbreaking. They robbed us of what would have been our best comeback in recent World Cup history. That said, Algeria tied England today which was unexpected. Which means that the US controls their own destiny. Beat Algeria on Wednesday morning, and we will advance. Simple as that.

England failing to score on Algeria pretty much bailed the US out. Now they beat Algeria and they advance. If you can't beat Algeria, you shouldn't advance anyway.

Refs from Mali shouldn't be reffing the World Cup, period!

I've been upset about this all day.

Ok was the call off sides or a foul? I mean, neither happened, but I still want at least some expectation of what the ref was thinking.

He can't call offsides I don't think, only the assistant on the sideline. It had to be a foul because the flag was never up. Don't try to get some expectation of what he was thinking, there is nothing there to find.

AT least when Jim Joyce blew a call, he faced the media, and flat admitted to blowing it. Such crap.

Well, just beat Algeria and advance.

It was a foul on the US...although they wouldn't say what the call was and replays showed 2-3 calls could have been against Slovenia. Baffling really.
