A legend? Hardly. Per Baseball-reference.....http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/rizzuph01.shtml
Most similar hitters (1000 being the most comparable)
Jose Offerman (954)
Claude Ritchey (942)
Hughie Critz (940)
Lonny Frey (939)
Jim Gantner (935)
Tom Herr (933)
Johnny Evers (929) * (only HOF)
Bill Hallman (928)
Delino DeShields (928)
Billy Rogell (925)
HOF Monitors
Gray Ink: Batting - 46 (524) (Average HOFer ≈ 144)
HOF Standards: Batting - 18.9 (689) (Average HOFer ≈ 50)
HOF Monitor: Batting - 87.0 (185) (Likely HOFer > 100)
Only reason he's even possibly close to being mentioned as a HOF is because he was the Yankees broadcaster. If he had the exact same career on the field and in the booth, except change the franchise to, say, the Minnesota Twins, noone would ever had heard of him.
The fact that this guy was elected to the HOF before Larry Doby is BS to the highest degree. Exhibit no.238,649 of how the Yankees and Red Sox are killing baseball.

yow !.....good stuff, LT
I've always liked Bill James' definitions of Baseball HOFers :
Definition A) arguably best of all time
Definition B) arguably best of his era
Definition C) outstanding player of his era
I'd prefer a more exclusive HOF with A&B types only.

that was one year, duck. One year doesn't make for a HOF career. Ask Roger Maris (if he was alive...). He had two MVP season. Jim Rice, Dale Murphy are a few others former MVPs who belong in the HOF too, and had better careers than Rizzuto.
Lincoln Tower is correct saying that he got in based mostly on his broadcasting and that he played for the Yankees instead of Minnesota or Kansas City.
Despite his questionable HOF career, he was a classy guy. Always enjoyed his broadcasts.

I can certaintly agree with that. Ironically, if you look at his "most similiar" category, the #1 guy certainly wouldn't fall in the "classy" category...at least not in the last week.
