They did 10 years ago...

but lately, they've had trouble just winning big games

2003 loss to USC in the Rose bowl 14-28 :(
2004 loss to Texas in the Rose bowl 37-38
2005 loss to Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl 28-32
2006 loss to Ohio State in THE GAME 39-42
2006 loss to USC in the Rose Bowl 18-32

They've got a chance to make it to New Orleans...they've only got 4 road games, with the hardest @ Wisconsin....Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Penn State all come to the Big House

Michigan has the players but the ultra conservative coaching holds them back.

Ktfan- why no?

i happen to think that last year was THE year, with the defense they had through the first 11 games. This year, the defense drops off with some key losses. However, the offense, with senior leadership in Hart and Henne, could be similiar to last years OSU team, which had to replace 9 starters on defense.

Conservative playcalling is another matter....

Their biggest hurdle will be at Wisconsin, never an easy place to play. They have a favorable schedule with Penn St. and OSU at home. I don't even think the ND game matters where its played. It could be uglier than last years game.

Of course Michigan can be a MNC. Why not ? There is excellent talent and that team always gets free high pre season rankings and has great name recognition for poll voters.

I'm not expecting a huge year from OSU this year (I know, now I'm a heretic) so...if "we" manage to derail an undefeated UM season up in AA. Man, that would make up for all the earlier losses in the season about 100-fold.

I think UM is in prime position to make a run at the title game. I'd agree in that they're in virtually the same boat we were in last year. But to win 'em all takes some doin' and some good fortune. The way the BT looked last year, no way does a BT team get in with 1 loss. So if UM does manage to run the table, their "prize" will likely be a rematch with USC.

UM shouldn't have much trouble getting motivated for that potential match up.

Lousy secondary. Losing Woodley and Branch kills. Offense is great and maybe English and motivate the defense, but I really doubt it.
