WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration is considering several steps that would review the legality of the controversial Bowl Championship Series, the Justice Department said in a letter Friday to a senator who had asked for an antitrust review.
In the letter to Sen. Orrin Hatch, obtained by The Associated Press, Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich wrote that the Justice Department is reviewing Hatch's request and other materials to determine whether to open an investigation into whether the BCS violates antitrust laws.
"Importantly, and in addition, the administration also is exploring other options that might be available to address concerns with the college football postseason," Weich wrote, including asking the Federal Trade Commission to review the legality of the BCS under consumer protection laws.

Agreed. If Obama gets a full 16 team college playoff, I'll gladly surrender my guns, sign up for government run healthcare, erase the borders on all my maps and exchange all my dollars for euros.
I'm a hypocrite, F**K it, Big Daddy Government- step in NOW and destroy the BCS!!!!!!

P.S. It's government intervention where it doesn't belong. No conservative should support this.

I would like that idea if it did not keep the power of the BCS in large corporate hands as it is now.

It is.. and, I don't! I just posted the article.
I think the government should BUTT OUT. They got their own problems to worry about.
Yep MB, we didn't elect these clowns to go screw with the BCS or college sports. Talk about running from real problems and posturing to their constituents who are probably largely football fans.
Hail, "corporate" football? Yes, that is true. I think Freddie, Fannie, Goldman Sachs, AIG, the auto industry is "corporate" enough at this time. Lets get them to work out those corporate issues before screwing with something that is as inconsequential as college football.

Just so I understand correctly, the government should ignore the possibility of an illegal monopoly because there are more important issues which CANNOT be addressed at the same as this one. I wonder if some of you ever manage to juggle more than two issues at a time even when they aren't of equal importance. BTW, I realize some of you like to make everything about Obama now, but Orrin Hatch did initate this.

Time to return college football to the universities and The People. My Duke friends and I had gone online to buy Duke at GTown tix at the Verizon Center in DC and could not get 4 or 6 tickets together for less than $175 each, ouch! This is a regular season college hoops game, albeit between 2 top 10 teams, but we decided not to attend and spend money on wings and beers at the bar. Being that GTown is thumping Duke so far in front of its partisan crowd, it was a better choice not to attend.

But, on the bright side, if Obama passed this, at least he would finally be pushing a bill that the majority of Americans DO want for a change!!!!!

The universities ultimately control the BCS. Who else do you want to have power?

Absolutely.
This is Obama trying to gain cheap political capital. He has been appealing to the college basketball crowd too.

But why would we allow Corporate profits to control what happens with the BCS to which most everyone complains about now even on this board?

When tv ratings, bowl committee profits, uniform sponsorships, etc. began to control the day.

I have no problem with the Justice Department taking a look, that's their job and purpose, to enforce the laws of the land, but the President and Congress should not be bothering at all....

Why do you think the government should control everything? Do you really think they are doing a terrific job? It appears to me everything they touch becomes a money pit. Should we be bailing out USC when the have a bad recruiting year?
