OT: The Departed

I just purchased the DVD after hearing so much about it.

If Martin Scorsese doesn't FINALLY win an Oscar for this movie, the Academy needs their head examined. Incredible movie, with great performances by everyone involved.

I'd be quite surprised if Scorcese doesn't win Best Director...Eastwood has two, no way the guy from the 9/11 movie wins it and The Queen will get Best Actress. I'm not as confident about The Departed getting Best Picture, it wouldn't surprise me if Little Miss Sunshine wins it...it did win the Screen Actors Guild's top prize. But I do believe Scorcese will get the Director award. What surprised me was DiCaprio didn't get a nomination for The Departed, I thought it was the finest role of his career.

i agree. you can add damon to that list as well. although i thought nicholson was a bit over the top. he kind of ruined the movie for me. good movie. nothing great. probably marty's best work since goodfellas.

i just don't understand all the hype with little miss sunshine. i love independent quirky type of films but that movie sucked. good performances but other than that is was a waste of time. i'd rather be forced to watch my big fat greek wedding again before little miss sunshine. lms is just one of those movies that people are scared to dis because they don't want to look unhip or smart.

I never even heard of Little Miss Sunshine 'til about a week or two before one of the awards shows (I can't keep track of all of 'em these days). Put me in the firmly "unhip" category. :D

Still haven't seen The Departed though. Looking forward to it.

The Departed is a very good movie. Duck-go to IMDB.com (internet movie database) to get info on it. I was a bit disappointed with the end. I just found it a bit contrived and too much shooting for shooting sake.
The main cast (nicholson, Damon, DiCaprio and Wahlberg) are all great, but the supporting cast, especially Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin, was very good as well. Great ensemble cast.
Its almost given that Scorcese will get best director, even if it doesn't win Best Picture. Over the past few years, there have been several instances where that has occured whereas in the past, they usually went hand in hand.
