View Full Version : How bad was Charlie Strong's timing?

I'd argue Charlie Strong would've been top UT candidate had he waited. He took South Carolina's defense to very strong status, Florida's to other-worldly. Strong SEC ties, familiar face and name in the South's recruiting turf. He should've waited. Brian Kelly must feel dumb also. Southern Cal and UT open up, and instead he's just bought the shovel for his eventual career grave at ND.

I think Strong has more potential for success (conference championship and BCS Bowl bids) at Lville than he would at Tennessee, playing in the SEC and in the same division as Spurrier, Richt, and Meyer. The one I bet wishing he waited was Tubbs as I think he would have been a perfect fit for Tennessee.

Tubbs at Tennessee.
That would have been wild.

Similarly, the recruits that make the difficult effort to wait until now thru national signing day next month to make their initial commitments are quite wise to do so. This way they do not have to decommit one or twice and they can wait until the coaching staff changes are made.

Funny how you like to Judge me, but i won't accept that offer.

Obama's bank tax is appropriate considering there is no function to banks anymore and the banks have already raised fees to everyday customers and allocated more bonus money this year than last year. The argument that the best employees will be lost without the bonuses is a joke considering there is nowhere for them to go as no company is hiring and we need no more self-employed hedge fund operators.

Fiscal conservatives wanted a free market and it left us with a worse job market than in 1929. In 1982, Reagan made drastic changes to start his second year in office and basically told everyone he is leveraging the future with loosening credit rules and cutting corp taxes. Obama can't do that as banks are done taking risks and corp taxes reductions would not save or create jobs. The lack of banking and lending oversight occurred of the 30 years since Reagan saved the economy starting in 1982 and the economy will not spike back up but, at the most, will slowly grow over the next decade. there is nowhere to employ people and those that are trying to open their own business can not borrow or find affordable commercial rents. The economy is flushing even while the stock market holds its own. I'm one of the luckier ones who will survive and success at a moderate lifestyle but for many, the future is not bright.

Here I am posting on Charlie Strong and I look at the MB-Hail exchange just below and we're discussing Obama? Uh, WTF?

His timing was terrible. Tennessee (the game vs. Florida would have astronomical implications), USF (the 2nd, 3rd or 4th power in Florida), Kansas (bring in southern recruits to Lawrence) and even USC (long shot) presented much more lucrative bullseyes for a man of his coaching genius. Expect Louisville to be competing for the Big East title as early as 2011.

I know Hail. MB is a most gracious individual that loves to expand any conversation by embracing and celebrating diversity. Charlie Strong is a most capable man who happens to be black. Much like that QB for the Washington Redskins kept emphasizing when he led them to a Super Bowl rout over the Denver Bronchos, 42-10, back in the early '80s. I wish Charlie the best of luck in Louisville.

Recall that Howard Schnellenberger put the Cardinals on the map after he built the Miami Hurricanes into a national champion and had that fiasco move to the USFL's Washington Federals 25 years ago.

Come to think of it ... I wish another USFL (late winter through the spring) football league would form. I enjoyed watching them. Some pretty good teams in the Memphis Showboats, Houston Gamblers, Birmingham Stallions, New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars, Orlando Storm, Tampa Bay Bandits, Oklahoma Outlaws, Los Angeles Express, Baltimore something-or-others.

Strong is having some difficulty building a strong and experienced coaching staff with all of the coaching changes occurring nationwide. He did land some top rated recruits recently though so some systems are working.
