While there were a number of OOC losses that didn't make the Pac-10 look silly (UCLA's nice effort against the Irish comes to mind), there were a few where the stink still lingers . . .
THE WORST FIVE LIST
#5 Washington State 14, Auburn 40 - Sure, most fans felt the Cougars were overmatched going in, especially playing on the road, but the 26 point loss was more than a blemish for the Pac-10 as the season wore on and WSU played other teams tough.
# 4 Oregon State 14, Boise State 42 - The Beavers started the year SLOWLY, and got their noses rubbed, but good, in the Broncos' blue turf---a loss not too many folks seemed to notice at the time.
# 3 Oregon 8, BYU 38 (Las Vegas Bowl)- The Ducks got routed in yet another sleep-walking performance for the conference in Las Vegas.
# 2 UCLA 27, Florida State 44 (Emerald Bowl)- A huge flop by the Bruins after their big win over conference champion USC---A thumping even worse than the final 17 point margin would indicate.
# 1 California 18, Tennessee 35 - A significantly bad start to the 2006 college season, with national TV coverage of a much hyped Pac-10 team being taken to the woodshed. Yuk!
