yep, thanks, Don. I actually saw the story on ESPN's OTL TV program. Everyone should read this. This academic fraud goes well beyond FSU. A kid has an IQ of 60 ?...can't read or write ? ...no problem because he can run 40 yards real fast.

Thanks for sharing. Now hopefully Hen can focus on this FSU scandal...that should keep him busy for the next 10-11 months! :)

So? He obviously isn't there to get an education, nor is anyone playing I-A football. If the goal of these players was to get an education, playing football while taking classes can only inhibit you from your goal of education.

I'm glad these illiterate kids get a chance at learning valuable skills, while helping the university make money, which fund plenty of other student athletes.

I jumped FSU much worse than UF back when it was obvious that Bowden was simply out dumbing everybody else. Now, UF is out dumbing FSU according to the latest NCAA admissions data.

what ? You don't think anyone playing 1A fb is interested in an education ?

Hen, I think we should commend the App St quarterback Armanti Edwards. Not only one of the best 1-AA players of all time, but during the game the other day they said he graduated in only 3 years and has been on the Deans List every year. He seems like a perfect example of a student athlete who could have slipped through school b/c he's such a great athlete, but he is instead putting as much effort into school as sports. He'll be a great addition to any NFL team.

Athletes who get fraudulent college degrees are a part of the reason the market is flooded with college graduates and most are unqualified to even answer telephones. We also get the special interests acceptances who got into college b/c they fit an under-represented group, then the breeze majors, then the joke colleges............a college degree is just not worth much anymore.

I highly doubt that FSU's current players are collectively smarter by any noticeable difference than UF's current players. Furthermore, FSU has been caught for actual academic fraud. Cheating! Seems as if that should get more of your attention. Or do you not care since they are 6-6? ;)

To say that no one playing 1-A football is there to get an education is so far off base. I'm not saying there aren't kids who are only playing to get to the NFL because we know there are many who fit into that categorie but to imply that every kid playing D-1 football is not going to school to get an education is pretty shortsighted on your part.

That's the kind of things I really enjoying hearing about CF players. I hope there is place for Amanti in pro ball.

Well, I'm trying to lay off the Gators . After a new MNC is crowned it will be much easier so only a few more weeks to put up with me, GG. The admissions data recently published shows :

Team SAT ave.) UF - 890 (lowest in SEC), FSU - 917
Team HS GPA ave. ) UF-2.54 ( lowest among all BCs programs), FSU -2.83

Going back to the previous report :(1998)

UF -892.7, FSU - 904.63

All the Florida big time programs are predicated on suiting up the fastest guys to be recruited, which means lots of pretty dumb kids and UF is basically out dumbing the others these days....not by a great margin.

Urban Meyer - " Our Goal is to be the fastest team in America. We want players that can run. If you can run, we will find you" ( UF 09 media giude )

There's the mission statement of UF football these days.'' If you can't read or write past the 4th grade level , we'll still find you ( if you can run ) The OSL will get you through. That's the Office of Student Life at UF.....That's the organization with a 2 million dollar annual budget for guiding, tutoring, supervising and keeping dumb jocks out of trouble and academically eligible and insuring FB victories.

Yes, most win-at-all-costs type FB programs have similar programs.

Time is a finite resource. If education is your goal, then your time should be spent on education. Football can only cut into the quality of your education, due to time constraints.

If the education is your priority, then I-A football simply inhibits you from that goal.

I agree with that. CF at the exhibition level has become a 40 hr + a week full time job. It shouldn't be. We need another moniker for it because 'college' football at this level has little to do with 'college' anymore.
Rick Tellender, the respected Chicago sportswriter , addressed this `issue in his book 'THE ONE HUNDRED YARD LIE'. He suggested that big time CF quit the charade and just suit up franchise sem- pro teams`with no class attendance required, no academic schedule at all...just full time FB players with 4 seasons`of eligibility. It actually makes sense to me.

They are effectively professional teams. We benefit, the university benefits, these 'student' athletes benefit, and the real student athletes benefit. No reason to change it now.

Right...so as I said, there is no real difference in intelligence level between the type of athlete recruited at UF vs FSU...we just have been getting the faster ones lately...and have been coaching them up better too. And our "dumb" players have beaten their "dumb" players six years in a row.

:D
