Rumor mill has a plane coming to pick up Bob Stoops and fly him into South Bend. Would brother Mike leave Arizona and come to Norman or would he join his brother at Notre Dame? Both are good Catholics so fit the religious preference nicely. Mike's defensive strategies and Bob's leadership would be a hard thing to beat. Irish can pay him more than the $3+ million he makes here but will have to cough up around $10 million to get rid of Chuck Weis. Expensive undertaking but regardless of who they go after its going to cost a lot of money on both ends of the candle under the Golden Dome.

Personally, I think the Cincinatti coach would be a better choice for ND.

$3MM ?? that's all Stoops was making? Wow... time for him to move on then... he could make more at Louisville!

Speaking of the Cards... I can't wait to hear who will be replacing Kragthorpe.. but, someone will. He's been awful.

Our defensive coordinator (Charlie Strong) is rumored to be a candidate for the Lville gig.

Her are the 4 top coaches under consideration::
Brian Kelly (Cincinnati) 75 %
Gary Peterson (TCU) 40 %
Pat Fitzgerald ( N'westn) 20 %
Paul Johnson ( Ga.T) 20 %

Patterson and Johnson won't be going anywhere. Patterson has turned down every job he's been offered since taking the TCU job. He's settled in there. Johnson has no interest in Notre Dame.

I wonder if anyone is interested in making $5MM a year

Then getting a giant stress sandwich, getting criticized for every loss to Navy and UConn, having their wife and kids hear every week that they are about to be fired and moving again, and have recruit after recruit turn you down in favor of USC, TX, FLA, OSU.

Notre Dame is becoming the infamous "coaches graveyard". Much like South Carolina in oh so many ways. Notre Dame is basically South Carolina except they were really good a few decades ago.

B90, I couldn't agree more. How many schools will get coaches of the caliber of Lou Holtz and then Steve Spurrier and still spend their entire existence in mediocrity. Beating Clemson is nice for South Carolina but how rare is that? The continually tank in the SEC.

Lot's of talk about Brian Billick going to Notre Dame too....

I hope they take a long time deciding... this could be fun!

Weiss is DEFINITELY leaving.. they've already denied his request to stay on the west coast to recruit after the Stanford game.

Probably the worst coaching job I've seen all year was Kansas' final drive yesterday. Missou has one time out but instead of making them burn it by running the ball, the throw on first and scond down and then run a QB draw out of the endzone on third down - Missou gets a SAFETY AND WINS THE GAME ON A LAST SECONG fg.

Continuing with the "gossip" about Bob Stoops and Notre Dame. I don't think this would be a wise thing for either the Fighting Irish or Stoops. Most coaches who can have a tag of "great" attached to their names generally have a lifespan where that truly applies. McKay at USC, Ara and Lou at Notre Dame, Darryl Royal at Texas, Spurrier at Florida, Bowden at FSU to name just a few.

Right now those riding high are Meyer at Florida who continues to maintain this very high position by leaving great teams and assuming the head roe at other great teams (this is not a "knock" by the way), Nick Saban who actually built two SEC programs (LSU and now Alabama) from the ground up gets my nod as the true "miracle worker". Stoops did it at Oklahoma but I feel he is now destined for 9-3 annual campaigns. Mack Brown at Texas seems to have a true knack for surrounding himself with superior coordinators and position coaches (Chizik and now Muscamp for example). Pete Carroll lost his brain trusts when both coordinators bolted to Seattle not long after Norm Chow began the exodus. Nebraska finally got it right with Bo Pelini.

Next two people to make a move upwards. Steele from Alabama and Strong from Florida.
