I dont ask for much. My Sooners have placed thier holy season upon the alter so in return, I ask the following.
Please let Texas A&M beat Texas tonight. Let FSU thump your son and the Gators and let Auburn beat the Tide.
Amen.
All right! You got the "Amen" in there. If you haven't been naughty but nice it ought to work for you. I'll do a prayer tonight myself - except I do like Alabama.

What would OU fans have to gain by Texas, Bama, or Florida losing? OK I can see Texas, but why do the OU fans here seem to relish the idea of SEC teams losing? I wasn't aware that there was any sort of rivalry between us? Is it carry-over from last year's BCS Title Game? What am I missing? I'm certainly not sitting here hoping and praying that Okie State beats OU this weekend...why would I care? Just curious as to why you would care what we do?

Texas looks like the most un-tested 11-0 team EVER! To think it took until game 12 on the schedule to face an offense to exploit them.
For those that want to see the SEC dominance come to an end, better hope for TCU or Cincinnati to jump UT. Florida and Alabama will maul these guys.
GG, neither kocurt nor I can speak for all the Big 12 fans. And please explain to me why either of us would "stand something to gain" by seeing Florida or Alabama lose? Why would I be for them anyway? What love do I owe the SEC? They show no love for anyone else and all they can do is beat their chest. So why would I support their arrogance?
Why, you ask? Because I'm tired of the SEC just like I'm tired of Southern Cal. I absolutely relished their crushing defeats at the hands of Oregon and Stanford. Texans and a lot of others have enjoyed OU's collapse this year. I'm tired of piss poor officiating that enabled Florida to remain unbeaten when playing Arkansas. Tired of "excessive celebration" penalties against players who actually got their team a lead. Also, you have some of the rudest fans in college football.
But I did say I'm an Alabama fan and if thy play Texas then I'm rooting for the Crimson Tide. Texas and their incredibly overinflated egos. I love seeing bubbles burst and this freshamn QB from a second rate Texas A&M is step-for-step with this primping Texas QB. The Horns should be burying A&M right now. It ain't happening. Watch out for these guys next year as a game like this goes beyond belief in yourself - it proves you're for real.
Texas is really good in bowl games. Has Alabama ever beaten Texas? Has Florida ever played Texas? And if its Texas and Florida then I have to say, "Hook 'Em Horns".

Not very much defense being played in this game...but it sure is entertaining.
Ouch...A&M just missed a short FG that would have made it 49-42.
Texas survives...TCU and Cinci fans just got their hearts broken.
One win over Nebraska next week and the Longhorns are Pasadena bound.

I never suggested that you should want Florida or Alabama to win, or that you owe the SEC any love. I only was curious as to why you and kocurt seem to relish the idea of us losing. You both have been giddy all season at the prospect of Florida losing a game and I was just curious if I missed an event that created such feelings. I don't sit here hoping OU loses games. I respect OU as a program and am a big Bob Stoops fan. Had some great conversations with some OU fans at the BCS Title Game last year. Nice people. I wasn't excited when OU lost to BYU or anyone else this year. I just find it odd that you would care so much about our failure. We aren't rivals, we aren't in the same conference, etc.

Gotcha. So you're tired of seeing the same conference / team win. I guess I'll take that as a compliment.

I think alot of people are tired of Texas, Florida and Alabama...this is alot like last year, and people are a little weary of McCoy and Tebow film highlights. We've been seeing them for several years now, we get it, they're good...
I grew up in a family that roots for Texas, so I usually pull for them, but part of me kept getting excited every time A&M scored tonight...
I may have leaned on you a bit heavy GG, sorry. But I am sick and tired of the SEC and their boasting. They won't leave the south to play a game and the bigger guys, except for Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee play pretty lame schedules in OOC. The "strength of the SEC" is no excuse for taking an easy road when going OOC. OU, Ohio State, much of the ACC and the Pac Ten and MWC certainly don't. Charleston, Troy and FIU are not anywhere near the caliber of teams a Florida should be scheduling. Plus hte SEC has won three of the last four BCS titles. Can you see why we outside of the SEC are a bit tired and would like to see a change?
EV, I like the underappreciated underdog as well. I got into this game as much as a OU-Texas game. Was exciting and the Aggies have little reason to be down. They rocked with the one of the best teams in the nation last night in a game that was supposed to be a McCoy Heisman rout. Johnson is excellent and mature way beyond his years. That young A&M team is going to make some serious noise if they can keep the concentration up from week to week next year.

Jim,
I must admit.. I do enjoy seeing the Sooners lose... especially to the likes of Boise St! :D But, I take no pleasure in seeing them become a doormat. You're killing our SOS. OU was about the only team we had on the schedule that should have helped us.. and, typically, you haven't.
And.. you're making the entire conference look bad.
Lock it up, man!

Well... that may be a LITTLE hyperbole... ... but, I would agree... that at this point, our biggest weakness is lack of real competition.
Playing tough teams improves you... if it doesn't kill you.
We got a good test last night. We'll get another next week. So far, we risen to every challenge... one way, or another.
Texas is not overly dominating in any one phase of the game.. although, the offense is pretty darn good. But, we have top level athletes all over the field.. on offense, defense and special teams. We have tons of experience .. (everywhere except Defensive backfield).. we have BIG beef on both lines... an O-line that has played together for 2-3 years now.. and a Qb that has won a few games.
We may or may not win it all this year.. but, I am supremely confident that we "can play with anyone". We won't be getting blown out by Florida, or Alabama. If we get there, it will be a darn good game.
And, if we play TCU or Cincinatti... you'll see a game that looks a lot like last night.

Sorry GG, I missed your question earlier, I must have skimmed it. LOL!
Why do I want the SEC to lose? The SEC fans. The good fans in the SEC are outnumbered at a 10-1 ratio by blowhard, arrogant, imbeciles.
I dont really want to see Bama lose because I have had some good experiences with thier fans. In fact, thats the only kind of experience I have had with Bama fans.
The rest of the SEC? Horrible, horrible experiences. LSU fans at the Sugar Bowl were VILE, vulgar, disgusting, and their behavior was borderline criminal. UF fans around here are unbearable. They talk as if they are college football elite?! They are on a good run, but historically? Sorry. Also, if an SEC team sucks for a season (UGA this year), all of a sudden they start beating the drum of whatever team in the conference is good and point to it as conference "superiority". You wont see an OU fan suddenly start rooting for UT this year. ITs just wierd how the SEC fans are so out of thier minds, off the planet, unreasonable, aggressive, insulting and condescending to other football conferences and teams. It baffles me. So if you dont understand something, its just natural to hate is. so..............I hate the SEC.

Well...over the last 20 years or since 1990, Florida is the winningest program in FBS College Football, has the most SEC Championships (8,) and is tied with Nebraska for the most MNC's (3.) So in my school's defense, I would argue that they are among college football's elite in recent history. Historically? No. I do not put us at the level of OU, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, etc. But I guess it depends how far back you need to go. If given the choice of being good historically or during the last two decades, I'll take the last two decades. It's much more fun to live in the present instead of the past. :)

Well, your fellow OU fan Jim just said he would root for Texas over Florida if they met in Pasadena. It's all good though. Look...you live in Atlanta, correct? The heart of SEC country. You are surrounded by Bulldogs, Gators, Tigers, Vols, etc. I understand that SEC mania probably can get old. Yes, we are passionate and love our teams and take a lot of pride in our conference. Believe it or not, there are plenty of sane, classy, and very knowledgeable SEC fans out there. Every school has their share of bozos. I've learned how to tell quite quickly what type of fan I'm dealing with in a given conversation and have learned how to stay away from the idiots.
kocurt, you'll NEVER, EVER see a Texas fan rooting for OU. I've asked around here and all I get is thumbs down.

Chaos and stupidity sells in American popular entertainment..and that's what the FBS post season basically is. 72% of CF fans cussing the BCS means it's popular and the cartel loves that.

I agree that they believe that.... but, I think they're wrong.
I'm not a believer that "all press, even bad, is good press".
When you see some other team get screwed by the system, it's material for debating... when YOUR team gets screwed over, it makes you care less for the entire enterprise. Eventually.. people can, and DO just tune out completely.
In the very long run... this travesty is killing college football.

I think more people 'tune in' than 'tune out' to see who's getting screwed.
I think we're an astute bunch in this forum but CF fans, in general,...well, we might be the dumbest in sports...at least the most gullable. We don't have the fortitude, in mass, to turn off the games or stop attending until they fix the post season.

My Friday morning and afternoon were very entertaining. Well worth the price of admission. A lot of the importance in that game was derived from there being no playoff. Auburn had the chance to play the ultimate spoiler...
I was entertained too much to ever think of boycotting.

Interesting article in the local paper this morning, kind of conspiracy-based for those you lean that way. The point being that ESPN, by gobbling up the entire BCS next year, is really a precursor to ESPN using their now complete media control of the sport, to FORCE a playoff onto the Presidents after 2013 when the current contract with ESPN "expires". ESPN/ABC/Disney, according this piece is already lining up sponsors to be able to more than double the bid of the next contract (currently at about $120,000,000/year), and hinting to them they are going to deliver the playoff, to pretty much lock out all competitors, and then essentially push the Presidents out using a kind of economic blackmail. And the biggest recalcitrant conferences, the Big 10 and Pac 10 will be largely powerless since Disney/ABC now pretty much "own" the Rose Bowl and all it's trappings from the Parade on down to the game, so they have no real say anymore....
Interesting read anyway. Regardless of whether or not ESPN is going to pull this off, the tide of history and economics will eventually sweep the bowl system away. At least as it exists today. At some point, the people who pay the bills (fans and sponsors) always get their way

It was an editorial by our local sports guy, actually in the "Money" section, rather than the sports section. Was on the World Herald site, but they only keep editorials for a day or two.....
