This is absolutely ridiculous. The girlification of football is reaching new heights. I was never a big fan of the no contact rules on DB's vs WR's, but understood it was to keep the game exciting. Fair enough.
Then the QB roughing rules got touchy. Especially in the NFL. But, million $ guys need to be on the field. Then came the helmet to helmet fouls, which suck, b/c thats just part of playing physical. THEN came the horse-collar tackle foul, which is absurd. Thats football. Just making a tackle.
But Lord O' Mighty the spectacle I watched this weekend. The referees are treating these grown men like kindergarten kids. A few of just many examples:
1- UF vs ARK. While a play is going wide, a ARK defensive lineman is in pursuit about 20 yards away, out of the play, that is IN progress. An UF lineman takes a bullseye target on him and is heading towards him. The ARK DE turns, meets the UF aggressor (which is fine, play is in progress and legal block) and ARK DE levels the guy. The ARK DE then does a little Tiger Woods fist pump, not at the UF guy but just in the air and whalla!! FLAG!!! The ref was reaching for the flag right after the hit, not even the fist pump. Many of you saw it and it was a pathetic, sad, awful call that hurt Arkansas in a tight game. Ref and NCAA should be ashamed.
2- SCAR vs BAMA. A RB is fighting for yards, multiple USC players tackling him, one UCS defender is wrapped around his waist, and as the whistle blows, the USC player completes the tackle by pulling him backwards and to the ground. FLAG!!! Insane. With 92,000 screaming fans, and you are wrapped around a RB's waist, with his thighs in your face, all you can see is the RB, all you can hear is adrenaline, and the RB is still moving. You make a tackle and get flagged. Pathetic.
3- Few saw this game on Fox SportSouth- Charleston Southern vs Gardner-Webb. A GWU WR makes a catch and runs to sideline. A CSU DB hits him. The GWU player spins off and bolts 2 steps up field. Well, during the spin, his foot touches out of bounds, but the WR doesn't realize it and keeps upfield. A second CSU DB is in pursuit and immediately hits him. Hard. Devastating, legal tackle. Ref flags it unsportsmanlike. Insane. The GWU WR and the CSU DB BOTH thought the play was still going, only the ref, who hadn't blown his whistle yet b/c it happened so fast, saw the foot hit out. Then the tackle, then the whistle, then the flag. In that order, in a game that ended with a 7 point GWU win at last second TD score. WTF? How do they still expect them to play the game?
