would be much bigger if there were a playoff? Halfway through the season, it seems as if only a dozen or so teams have a realistic shot at the top two spots while many other teams that would be still in the running for a playoff berth are left to play spoiler and chase a glorified consolation berth. As exciting as it is to have Iowa sitting at 6-0, if they lose any one of these next six games, the level of excitement even for an 11-1 season drops dramatically. I guess I don’t get what is so special about a system that demands perfection at the expense of teams being as competitive as possible such that 12-0 seasons are rare rather than demanded in order to be “worthy” of the BCS title game.

Alabama and South Carolina would be huge as a playoff game.
Both teams have outstanding Defenses and great coaches.
It might be the talk of the week, in a playoff scenario.

This happens every year. By Nov 1 we are usually down to half a dozen or so teams with a realistic shot, and four of those begging for someone ahead of them to lose in and upset. Under the playoff system I like, which is a pretty limited system involving only 12 out of 120 teams, there are still at least 30 or more in the hunt as late as early November.

....the great 'myth' and excuse.....the 'meaningfulness' of the FBS regular season.
