Sagarin had Ole Miss ranked 64th in the country, behind 4 or 5 FCS teams and its SOS was rated 177th.
Howell ranked Ole Miss 41st
The Massey Composit ranked Ole Miss 20th
Poll voters are delusional.

Those computer rankings, at this point in the season, are no more valid than the human polls. Sagarin's formula at this point is still heavily weighted to last year's results. Many of the others are too. What is the point of comparing the human polls to these? I understand your issue with the human polls, but making your point by comparing the results to objective formulas that are developed to rank 'total season' performance doesn't make your point.
Historically, the human polls at the end of the season produce virtually the same results at the computer polls. Will you come back at the end of the season to call the human voters delusional if they rank Ole Miss within a few places of the Massey Composite?

I wasn't making a case for the computers, HYH. I'm no fan of those things either. Just found it interesting that the computers didn't think a 2-0 record vs Memphis (which hasn't won a 1A game yet ) and weak ,1AA Southeastern Louisiana was worth a #4 ranking...and if last season is so heavily weighted at this point why was Ole Miss ranked 64th in Sagarin's system ?

The computers don't 'think' anything. The computers are designed to evaluate football programs based on an entire year's worth of the data. They don't get that data until the end of the year. Week-by-week computer polls are only produced to feed our appetite for these things, but ask any person who created the formulas for these computer polls and they will tell you that there is very little meaning to the results of their polls during the early weeks of the season. It takes several weeks of data until computer rankings become less volatile.
For example. If you flip a coin twice and get 2 heads. What does that tell you about the probability of flipping a coin? Almost nothing. You need sufficient data.
Even with a loss, Ole Miss might just improve it's ranking in some of the computer polls next week, if, by playing SCarolina, it's SOS has improved.

Nope, I had a Gamecock fan tell me this week that Sagarin is obviously biased to the ACC, because his most recent rank has 6 of the top 13 teams from the ACC...and "we all know" that's not right, and "it's a stupid computer" and the "SEC rulz" *picks up dragging knuckles, breathes through nose again*
LOL!

No Hen, SC beating Ole Miss is just 100% proof that the SEC is OMG the toughest conference, and our conference schedule makes up for our OOC schedule, why we sometimes lose bowl games because we are so beaten up from tough conference play.
There, that should cover it.

The SEC doesn't lose Bowl games it isn't supposed to lose....because the SEC plays the ACC so often is Bowl games!:)
SEC (W-L record = 161-61 or 0.725) vs ACC (W-L record = 164-60 or 0.732)???
15-4 in BCS era. Ouch:eek:

How about SEC teams' all-time record against ACC teams? 259-123-10. Even Tech won against ACC teams at an 81% clip, 13-3, when it was still an SEC school (and all three losses were to Duke).
