Although I don't agree with it completely, I do think it is somewhat logical given the current landscape:

A four-team mini playoff, similar to the one described in the above link, is the next logical / reasonable step that actually has any chance of happening anytime soon IMO. I think we'll see it within the next 5-10 years. Hopefully starting in the 2013 season after the next four-year BCS contract / cycle ends.
I like the plan for the most part, especially the semi-finals being on campus as it still rewards #1 and #2 with a home game and gives teams incentive to finish there. By limiting the playoff to just four teams, and giving #1 and #2 a home-game incentive, there should never be any reason for a team to "rest their starters" thinking that they are already in. To finish in the top four, you are likely going to have to either go unbeaten or just have one loss.
The main thing I disagree with in the proposal is the emphasis on conference champs - do not limit the four playoff teams to conference champs. Just take the top four, using whatever method is in place at the time, and get on with it. I am only in favor of auto-bids for conference champs if it is a real 16-team NCAA Playoff in which all 11 conference champs get auto-bids.
The other main problem I have with the proposal is the idea of having the semi-finals one week after the conference title games...no good. Not only does that put the teams from the SEC, BIG 12, and ACC at a competitive disadvantage, but I believe that would be exam time anyways. Give the kids at least two weeks off and then run the semi-finals in mid December, after exams but before Christmas. That would give the schools participating in the semi-finals enough time to plan, but also give 2-3 weeks time between the semi-finals and the BCS Championship Game.
Until the NCAA steps in and runs a real playoff, I could live with this type of setup.

I started reading his plan until he began to mention 'ranked' than quit like I do with all championship plans based on 'ranked'. 'Ranked' is crap. Conference championships are all we have in big time CF that aren't mythical (opinionated/voted). Any legitimate national championship field must start there.

I agree Hen. I would prefer to see an objective system (or computers) decide the standings, especially in this type of format where it would be limited to four teams. I would even prefer a selection committee over polls. However, I've come to realize that polls likely aren't going anywhere anytime soon. It stinks, but that's the truth. This plan basically keeps the same BCS system in place, but it doubles the # of teams from two to four that get to participate in the "playoff." For that reason alone I see it as a slight upgrade from what we have now and would prefer it over what we have now.

Yuk... that's more convoluted than ever.. I'd take our current crappy system over that.
Sigh... why does this have to be so hard? Too many "assymetrical" brainiacs involved, I guess...
