I just need some information from UofM fans. Me and a number of friends and fans of Appalachian St. are coming up for the opening game on 9-1 at the "Big House". I just need info on parking, places to stay, things to do for a long weekend (Labor day) and if Detroit is the best place to fly to from Charlotte? I am looking forward to it. I've never seen a game in a stadium that large before.

Thanks

Tennessee is over 100,000, but I don't know Neyland Stadium is as big as The Big House.

Neyland is #3.

#1 - Michigan Statdium
#2 - Beaver Stadium
#3 - Neyland Stadium
#4 - Stadium

The Rose Bowl was #5, but I think Sanford "may" have passed them. The Coliseum would be next and then Tiger Stadium (LSU).

There are many hotel rooms available within 10 minutes of the Big House. The best thing to do is to book the rooms early and take a cab from the Detroit Metro Airport directly to the hotel. You can walk or take a short cab to downtown Ann Arbor that has a lot of cool drinking spots. And if you stay nearby, you need not worry about parking which can be difficult to find or find anyplace closer than your hotel location. Nonetheless, if you do drive and arrive early, many nearby residents open up their front lawns for parking at relatively reasonable rates.

Also, I highly recommend bringing your golf clubs and playing a round at the Michigan Golf Course especially at this time of year.

Hail to the Victors

Thanks again for the info. I've got my tickets on order and my travel plans for Ann Arbor. One question though. What type of seats are there in the stadium? Are they benches or stadium seats? Need to know if we can fit 5 in an area for 4.

Benches without dividers other than painted seat numbers. This partially explains why the actual attendance exceeds the stated seating capacity by approx. 5,000 people during most home games.

Enjoy the game.

Due to the renovations going on at Neyland Stadium (they are replacing some bench seating with theater seats for Club Seating) the seating capacity at Neyland Stadium actually dropped below Ohio stadium in 2006. However, Neyland Stadium could actually increase the number below in 2007 according to Mike Hamilton, the UT Athletic Director.

THE TOP 10 LARGEST STADIUMS IN 2006 WERE:

1. Michigan Stadium 107,501
2. Beaver Stadium 107,282
3. Ohio Stadium 102,329
4. Neyland Stadium 102,038
5. Sanford Stadium 92,746
6. Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum 92,516
7. Tiger Stadium 92,400
8. Bryant-Denny Stadium 92,134
9. Rose Bowl 92,059
10. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium 88,548
