After all these worthless exhibition games we at least did learn something. Big XII defense really did suck. Faced with other conference defenses from their top teams, these XBox360 offenses ground to pretty much a relative halt....

Although we should just ignore that one of these Big XII South D's is holding a team averaging 45 PPG to 7.

Outside of the Texas game, OU has been the only Big 12 defense that has had success in throttling the offenses of Tech, Ok St, Missouri, Nebraska.... Texas, Nebraska, Ok St, Missouri still moved the ball and scored some but nowhere near the rate they did in their Big 12 games....

Well, the only teams in the Big 12 that actually pounded their opponents were Kansas and Nebraska. Clemson's points were "gimmes" but even at that the Huskers almost lost it. Missouri proved to be a talented poser.
Had Oklahoma's Robinson not f*cked up twice, Wilson not tried to run off tackle and had OU called a timeout before tossing that hot potato when at the 6 yard line, the Sooners would probably have won the game. They'd probably have scored two touchdowns and had Florida down 21-7 at the half. The final Gator runs would have been with an OU lead of 28-14. But that is all water under the bridge.
The latest OU surge, assuming Stoops even sticks around for any length of time, is now officially over. I expect Texas and Oklahoma State to be vying for the Big 12 south next year with the winner of the Oklahoma at Texas Tech game clinching third. Maybe a series of Alamo, Holiday and Gator Bowls is what OU needs to get back into their winning ways in the post season. Personally I don't have a problem with it. Pressure year in and year out is starting to grate on me. OU at Nebraska will be a good game next year. Texas will pound OU and possibly even BYU in the opener. Expect OU to get perhaps a 9-3 next year. I think the Huskers will as well if they can get a solid replacement for Ganz up and running in the spring.
I'm glad this season is over. Fortunately for me I took tomorrow off and we're having a party at a friends on Friday night. At least we'll not be looking forward towards another game for awhile. I'm going to get some rest and begin pondering over predictions for 2009.

And for the ?th year in a row, Zoombag says he won't watch the BCS game, but obviously did.
And for those of us who find "Crowning a true National Champion" pretty low on their list of things to worry about, we got to see a pretty exciting game between two highly talented and competitive programs. I enjoyed every minute of it, and somehow didn't develop an ulcer over why these two teams were playing each other.
College football is the best spectator sport in America, at every level. And when two quality teams go head-to-head, its a treat to watch, regardless of whether the game is for a 'true champion'.
Congratulations to Florida for being the BCS champion, and congratulations to Oklahoma for a great season. Also, congratulations to Utah for a great season, and in my opinion, the team that had the most legitimate claim to be #1. (whatever the hell #1 means) I hope the AP writers reward them for it. If they don't, it was still fun watching them dismantle Alabama. Because great football is great football, no matter the trophies awarded.

I agree with ya, HYH. Good game and lots of other good post season games. This level of football is very entertaining .I think ol' Zoom takes a peek at some of these things.
However, I have that same unfulfilled, let down feeling now that I have every year after the last PSEG. No team advances...no impending showdowns to anticipate....no national champion..nothing builds to an exciting and defining climax. If you score one more point than your opponent you're supposed to keep playing, but we have 68 teams taking home 34 trophies and poof..that's it. This great game and its fans, players and coaches deserve better.

I watched Utah-Alabama buts only because we didn't go to the movies like we had planned. Saw the highlights of this one on the local news and check the score on ESPN.com at halftime....
But it's apparent the high scoring offenses were held in check once these teams got out of the Big 12....

OU was not used to seeing WR's covered like that down the field. As good as the coverage was, Bradford was still amazing. He should go pro, and get paid.
The Big 12 south defenses were indeed average , and the offensive numbers were very inflated.

Agree....just not the same separation downfield vs the Gator speedsters.

Of course, during bowl season, here's what the opponent of B12 South teams scored, compared to their season averages
Ole Miss - scored 47, averaged 31
Oregon - scored 42, averaged 42
Ohio State - scored 21, averaged 24
Florida - scored 24, averaged 37
Not great, but I think those results are above "suck".
