View Full Version : Worst BCS year yet?

I don't think anything will beat the '04 year, with Auburn and Utah getting left out, but this year looks like its on its way to being an absolute joke

USC has probably the best defense, and they'll probably get left out of a title shot...In fact, the entire west is 35-1, among Boise State, Utah, and USC...the entire west will most likely be completely left out of the National Championship

USC would actually be better off losing this weekend!! A loss would probably send them to the Fiesta or Sugar...

The Big XII scenario is totally absurd...Texas sitting on the sideline this year is a black eye on the Big XII and college football world, and I can't say OU doesn't deserve a shot either...just not at the expense of Texas

either way, one of these teams will most likely be playing Utah in the Fiesta Bowl...unfortunately the winner won't get to move on

Ohio State being mentioned in the BCS, especially over Boise State, is a joke...Ohio State has no business being in the BCS this year, and Boise State is the higher ranked team!?

Last year was pathetic. Kansas was clearly at least one of the two that should have played for the MNC, not LSU. They really should have just canceled the BCS last year for how utterly pointless and useless it was.

This year we have the normal BCS situation. One or less major conference undefeated, a host of one loss teams, and a couple of smaller conference undefeateds, and no humanly possible way to sort them out.

It could have been worse if penn state and usc did not lose a close conference road games as more teams would be griping.

I do notice that everyone gripes about the bcs unless they are one of the top 2 teams.

For what it's worth, I have griped about the BCS since day one, including in 2006 when my school benefitted from the system...and I will continue to do so after this season, even if my school again benefits from the system. The BCS stinks.

The problem is, you can't use head-to-head in a 3 way tie. Otherwise, why does Texas get to go ahead of Tech?

I'll tell you why, because Tech is suffering from anal bleeding after the loss to OU. Or so the thinking goes. So if OU beat Tech by 10 points in a hard-fought game, Tech is still a respectable opponent, and they have an argument to be the South rep with their win over Texas. So UT's head to head win over OU doesn't come up as the all-important factor.

But OU didn't win by 10. They annihilated Tech, so much so that people want to count it as two losses, not one. They want to pretend a three-way tie didn't happen. It's easier that way, after all. In this situation, OU is punished because we won too easily.

Either Tech is a pretender or OU is just really good. So either Texas lost to a pretender, or they lost to a good team that just got steamrolled by a better team. Either way, OU blasted the one team that beat Texas.

Teams are dynamic. They change from week to week. Some improve, some get worse. Let's not pretend they are static and unchanging.

I'm not saying Texas doesn't have an argument. I'm just saying that it isn't cut and dried.

Oh enough with Kansas! The only difference between KU thid year versus last year is this year they faced OU, UT, and TT plus South Florida in the OOC. This year showed what type of team they are as they didn't get to dodge the best teams in their conference.

So, what will you say if Oklahoma beats Missouri by more than 25? In the frozen tundra about seven hours from Norman and two hours from Columbia in Kansas City, MISSOURI ???

Texas had to walk accross the street to play Missouri in Austin. OU is going to be playing this in hostile territory inside of a freezer.

nebraska didnt even win big 12 northas i recall plus gave up something like 62 pts. to colorado in last regular season game???...question: what bowl will boise st wind up in?...do they defend blue home turf against some hapless, shivering mediocre team acc team like maryland or will they get a decent opponent in another bowl?..and while i am at it, how do teams that completely played like garabge the end of the season like south carolina, kentucky and minnesota even deserve any bowl????

All you have to be is slightly below average to advance to a 'bowl' ( 57% of FBS teams advance). Having a 3-5 conference record is good enough to earn one of these trips. They are mid-winter vacation trips and, basically, meaningless exhibitions although 34 teams will take home some sort of trophy.

That Utah should still get the MNC bid.....
