That is all head-to-head tiebreakers amount to. They do not favor a inherently more valuable season. They simply favor the team that falls into the right tie and ultimately reward a team as much for losing to someone with a different record as they do for beating a team with the same record. In a three-way tie, it appears Texas > Oklahoma > Texas Tech. Yet, each of these teams wins a two-way tie based on the third team losing a second game. However, the resumes of the teams involved in the two-way ties remain unchanged from the three-way tie. Basically, Texas > Texas Tech if Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State while Texas Tech > Texas if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma. The outcome of the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State game has as much bearing on where Texas and Texas Tech finish as does their meeting. Even still, fans act like head-to-head tiebreakers determine some undeniable truth.
