going to lose to Alabama or Florida anyways.

It doesn't really matter guys, look at it objectively. The SEC does the best job of preparing teams for the National Championship game. Whenever a team in the SEC is deserving of playing in the National Championship game, they win it. Competition breeds winners, and the SEC does just that.

If both Alabama and Florida win next week, one is guareneed a slot in the National Championship Game, and thus is gaurenteed a National Championship. Nobody really remembers #2, so why are we discussing the potential #2 team so much?

You are aware that Florida and Alabama, combined, have won 5 out of 14 post season games vs current members of the B12 South, Aren't you ?. That's a 35 % success rate. Also, Au, you surely are aware that Alabama has never ever beaten Texas ( in 8 tries )...right ?. Might not be quite as 'automatiic' as you're guaranteeing.

If both Alabama or Florida win "NEXT WEEK" one of them is guaranteed a spot in the BCS title game? Now #5 ranked Oklahoma butchered an undefeated #2 ranked texas tech, 65-21. Could have been 72-14 or 72-21. They jump from #5 to #3. Why only two spots? TEXAS, thats why. You think Texas thumping Texas A&M (far better than Citadel) and Oklahoma thumping Oklahoma State (clearly a very good 9-2 and BCS #12 ranked team team) and one of those two beating BCS #13 ranked 10-2 Missouri will not be enough for both of them not to remain ahead of Florida?

Now:

Alabama
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida
USC

After regular season ends:

Alabama - beats 5-6 Auburn in Tuscaloosa.
Texas - beats 4-7 Texas A&M in Austin.
Oklahoma - beats 9-2 Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
Florida - beats 8-3 Florida State in Tallahassee.
USC - beats 6-5 Notre Dame in Los Angeles.

The media wants an SEC-Big12 or SEC-Pac Ten showdown. That is the reason Florida would jump one or the other Big 12 team even though the Big 12 has had far better sustaining power in this year's race. OU jumped two when they won over Tech because the Gators played Citadel - late in the year and OU obliterated the #2 and undefeated team in the nation (BCS). Even with Utah crushing BYU and Penn State crushing Mich. State, the Gators remained ahead. It is media.

Who has the biggest win here? I'd have to say Oklahoma. Second biggest is Florida over FSU. Now, as unlikely as it is to occur, say Auburn pulls a Stanford over USC type of win against Alabama or FSU does likewise against Florida (Ole Miss did we recall). Then gold polish is kind of washed off for the SEC. If Florida lost and then beat Alabama - BYE BYE SEC. Hello Oklahoma vs. Texas.

You think that those two weeks OU prepared for tech weren't extremely beneficial? Imagine a month for Stoops' staff/players to regroup for Tebow. Stuff Timmy enough, like Ole Miss did, and Flordia is neutralized. How many teams in teh SEC have an offense that has been averaging around 250 rushing and 350 passing per game since ealy October? Stop the run and you'll give up the pass and vice-versa.

A month to prepare for Texas' McCoy/Shipley combo? Look at hew well two weeks worked so well for OU to stuff Harrell/Crabtree. A couple of head-spinning slobber-knocker collisions vs. Shipley will effectively stretch his springs like a used slinky. McCoy passes short an a couple of I'm-going-to-plant-your-ass-head-first hits on Poneyboy will prompt some headaches requiring a veterinarian.

Oklahoma showed me some long lost intensity - like the earlier Stoops' teams. An out and out JIHAD on an opponent. Almost 50% of the points scored on OU, since Texas, have been junk points. So the beheadings being administred are even more merciless than at first glance. Even Ghenghis Khan would be nodding approval right along with Attila the Hun.

Jim,

That's all fine and dandy, but why do you assume that a month off to prepare for Tebow would be that big of a deal for Stoops and Oklahoma? They had a month off to prepare for WVU last year, Boise State the year before that, Southern Cal in 2004, and LSU in 2003. Aren't they 0-4 in their last four BCS Bowl Games? Not saying they wouldn't win as I think Florida vs Oklahoma would be a great game. But if that game were to happen, don't forget that Urban Meyer has a pretty good track record in preparing for big games with time off himself.

Hopefully, we can take care of business and then win a hard fought game against Alabama so that this game against Oklahoma (or Texas or whoever) actually happens. It would be fun to watch as a fan. It won't be Texas vs Oklahoma unless you have something happen like FSU beats Florida who beats Alabama thus leaving the SEC Champ with 2 losses. Then you could see a Red River Rematch.
