Per comments from Evil Vodka, James Howell and others I thought I'd throw in my tarnished two cents worth.

So ...

The idea of the Mountain West and Big XII kind of seems like a mad scientist's dream. I'd like to see a combination since its been pointed out by so many posters from the Pac Ten that most of those schools are too conservative to fit into the mindset of the wacky left coasters. Take BYU and Utah along with a new and seemingly a permanently improved TCU. Now that is three teams. Leaves some for the Big West to grab while Air Force goes independent na therefore can improve their schedule.

A new Big West could have Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada, San Jose State, Hawaii, Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado State, Idaho and San Diego State. The marquis cities would be Honolulu and San Diego and the Big West champion and runner up could host in bowl games. Forget that Humanitarian Bowl or whatever the hell they call it now in Boise. Might as well establish bowl games in Indianapolis and/or Detroit if you're willing to travel from the warm south to play a game in an environment equivalent to a Gulag in Siberia. How many Miami players ever saw snow let alone the northern lights?

I like your "Golden West" conference except that it just ain't gonna happen. The liberalism of the west coast won't allow for the consiederation of a Utah and/or BYU into an expanded Pac Ten so they're not about to ask a bunch of Bush supporters and/or Okies to come onboard. Great crowds to be sure but an even greater divide culturally speaking. The Pac Ten will remain just at 10 teams since the money pot is bigger for the existing teams and adding more teams would mean less spoils. Do you think USC would want a reduction in monies available to pay $2,500/month rents for the parents of their star players? I think not!

I think those three MWC teams combined with Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas and Kansas State would fit since it would yield 12 teams and the best from the MWC while losing Iowa State (to the MAC) and Baylor (to CUSA) and Missouri (to Big Ten).

At this point we have a Big XII (with three new members), an improved Big West (also with 12 teams), a statis Pac Ten, Air Force going national (in addition to their freshman academic classes). We'd have SMU, UTEP, Houston, Rice in the CUSA like they already are. Add Utah State and New Mexico State to the Sun Belt.

The Big Ten would now have 12 teams with the inclusion of Missouri per your postings. The SEC would be set with their current 12 teams as would teh ACC. The Big East would remain at 8 while Notre Dame, Army, Navy and Air Force (and Temple) would round out the Independents.

Temple is now in the Mid-American Conference.
