That the bill is question is the $25 billion auto bailout bill and that the Senate leadership is attaching the extention of unemployment benefits with it. It is not a stand alone bill. And Bush should veto the auto bail out. Let them merge or reorganize with Chapter 11

Agree totally, SS.
Use the airlines as precedent.
C11 will break the union contracts, can shitty mgt and allow for a compelte restructure in a cost environment that provides better competuitive footing.
That’s what Congress ultimately wants (although they can't be on record as saying that).
Give them the former $25B to re-tool to electric and CNG cars. Use other money to guide them through bankruptcy and come out stronger and better able to compete in the future.
Make GM get rid of GMAC, alhtough I see today where GMAC has filed to be a BHC, so it can access treasury funds under the TARP.
Expect the Ford and Chrysler finance arms to follow suit here.

I'm not saying go belly up. Reoganize. That is what Chapter 11 is for and can make those compaines stronger. They don't shut down, they still pay employees, furnish products and buy supplies. And look at the airlines, they are better for it and are trimming the herd thru mergers.
And as for my car, I drive a Mercury Mountaineer. And I've only owned and drove Ford products my entire life.
He probably should veto it. I mean R'Duck look at it this way ... Obama can come in and get it passed as only a Messiah would. Plays right into the Obamanation phenomenon !!! Rejoice Duck, the Tribulation is at hand. And those evil republicans will all get banished to hell just like you'd hoped.
By vetoing the bill it can be shown that his leadership, even if unpopular, is in fact the "right" choice. And we all know "right" is actually "wrong" don't we? Oath of Fealty sessions will begin on the evening of January 20. No Bible will be provided, just his shoe to kiss.

Jim, do you have any non-public news on Oklahoma DT Pearlie Graves, who verbally committed to Michigan yesterday.

OU needs all the in-state talent it can get. If he did commit to Michigan it must due family ties or perhaps he is pre-law.
