let us suppose that ND agrees to join and the following "conference" is assembled. (Part 2 will cover ND's acceptance) READ PART 2 LATER!!!!
Hayes/Schembechler Div ............Rockne/Paterno Div
OSU........................................ND
Mich.......................................PSU
Wisc.......................................Minn
MSU.......................................Iowa
NW........................................Ill
Ind........................................Purdue
Now each team will play every team in their division every year and will play the team opposite them every year as a "traditional rival". In addition each team will play 2 of the remaining five teams in the other div on a rotating basis.
Also, a sub rule allows Mich/OSU and PSU/ND to alternate "traditional rivals" every two years. That is, for two years Mich will play PSU and OSU will play ND and then for two years Mich will play ND and OSU will play PSU.
Now, note that Mich and OSU cannot play each other more than once in a year protecting that game. I believe the set-up would protect the "Little Brown Jug", "Slab of Bacon/Paul Bunyan's Axe", "Paul Bunyan Trophy", "Floyd of Rosedale", and the "Governor's Victory Bell". Have I left any out, Big 10 fans?
