Where have I suggested that those games don't serve a competititve purpose. I admit that there are more attractive matchups than my narrow definition implied, but my argument which I failed to articulate more clearly was about the fact that BCS does nothing to encourage these type of games and that risk outweighs the reward for the teams that do play them. What strategy is there behind these games under the BCS that makes them worthwhile for the teams involved? Because two unbeaten majors are a near certainty to play for the title, why take an unnecessary risk where even a win doesn't guarantee that pollsters will put you over the top? As I said in the other thread, playing Florida International is strategically more advantageous than playing Florida. I think the opposite should be true and that is the basis of my argument against the BCS.
BTW, I think you are stretching on some of those games listed. Texas at Central Florida? Besides that, attractive matchups do not necessarily equal strong scheduling.

A VT or WVU matchup with East Carolina might have been interesting 5 years ago. But you could hardly say so now. There are others on your list that are equally uninteresting.
However, I do agree with your general premise, that there are far more good OOC games than CJ's narrow definition.

You have repeatedly said, or strongly suggested that most of the OOC game scheduled serve no competitive purpose. In fact, that's the basis of the title you started discussing this topic.

I'm jazzed up for that 'Bama/FSU tilt.

I asked what competitive purpose do OOC games serve given that there are very few games played that separate the contenders from the pretenders. If nearly everyone in the top 25 is unbeaten in OOC play because they are playing bodybag games, what competitive purpose do these games serve? Besides that, I wasn't suggesting that there are no competitive OOC matchups. Nevertheless, I got away from the point I was trying to make which is that the BCS does not make OOC matchups between top 25 teams worthwhile to the teams involved.

After I made the list, I thought someone would point those out hehe
East Carolina did give West Virginia a pretty good game last year though...
I guess I could take those games off the list, because VT and WV will probably roll over East Carolina

I'm an OSU FANatic that also roots for the Tide. Nothing against FSU. I'd be pulling for Alabama regardless of who they were playing. Unless of course they were playing OSU.

I would have loved to see that game 15 years ago...still should be good because Saban has seemingly energized that program.

I don't know about that. I hope the Hokies take ECU seriously instead of worrying about the next week's trip to LSU.

CAL, USC, UT and ND might all have bowl bids at stake;)
