Well, not exactly. I added each team's winning percentage and opps' winning percentage which would produce the same results as my point system if every team played the same number of games. Nevertheless, it is a fair approximation. These rules disagreed with the selection committee on six teams. Objectivity favored VCU, Illinois State, Stephen F. Austin, Dayton, New Mexico, and IUPUI. The committee liked Kansas State, St. Joes, Kentucky, Arizona, Villanova, and Oregon. 6 mid-majors versus 5 of 6 majors. That said, listed below are the 65 teams that qualified in order of their rank under the objective rules followed by their seed according to those rules and their actual seed in the NCAAs.

Well, at least they gave UGA a #14 and not the usual #10-12 for upset major conf winners

Usually more a timing thing than anything else. 4 of the 6 'BCS' leagues have their tourney final on Sunday, with the BT final usually withing an hour of the announcment. They pretty much have time for 2 scenarios. 1 for their last team in, and another for that team getting bumped for the upset tourney winner. Usually they reserve one spot, like #11 seed in the West, and either team gets that spot. They also have to make sure that they stay away from interconference matchups prior to the swet 16 as per the rules.

In 2003, Auburn was the last team in and a 13 loss Ohio State team was playing in the BT finals. They saved the 10 seed in one of the regions for either Aubrun, or Ohio State if they won. There were other at larges seeded lower, but that 10 seed worked for both an SEC team or a BT team.

If they ended the tourney earlier, like they should, then it would give the committee enough time to truly seed correctly. But the networks want the games more spread out, so this is what we get.

They could use an objective system that automatically places teams as soon as games are completed.:D

Well, I just added winning percentage and opponents' wining percentage to get the seeds above. That is a very close approximation of the point system I beat over everyone's head during the football season.
