Best scenes ever filmed....either technically or for content.

in no particular order....

1. Ben-Hur - the chariot race. Truly amazing and it was filmed well before the computer animation and technological advances over the past 20 years - this was live and very exciting.

2. Saving Private Ryan - the opening invasion scene. Left you numb - incredible recreation.

3. Gone With the Wind - Atlanta burning. Again, without the technology of today and I doubt you could improve upon what they did in 1939.

4. Raiders of the Lost Ark - opening segment. The ball chasing Indiana Jones was about as cool as it gets.

5. It's a Wonderful Life - final scene when the town rescues George Bailey on Christmas Eve - can't watch that scene without tearing up.

6. The Deer Hunter - Russian roulette. Talk about intense and horrifying.

7. On The Waterfront - The cab ride...Terry confronts Charlie about Charlie making him take a dive.

8. The Sting - 'The Sting', had me going.

9. The Sixth Sense - The ending when you realize what was going on...I really got chills on that one.

10. The Crying Game - the 'reveal'. Kind of figured it was coming but could understand Fergus' response when you saw it.

11. The French Connection - best chase scene ever.

12. The Godfather - The baptism/killing sequence at the end.

13. Breaking Away - the Little 500.

14. Beauty and the Best - the Ballroom scene where Belle and the beast are dancing.

15. And Justice for All - the final courtroom scene when Pacino turns on his client...

16. Dog Day Afternoon - Attica! Attica!! Attica!!!

Good thread.

How about....

Any Given Sunday- The final game speech from Pacino.

Titanic- Technically and special effects. Seeing that ship go down was awe inspiring. For a 1998 film especially since tech effects were just starting to bloom.

Full Metal Jacket- The suicide scene. Very powerful and creepy portrayal of a young man just losing his mind.

Jaws- For it's technological innovation at that time period. I know I was scared of the ocean for years after that movie!!

Just a few more mainstream ones

The opening of Gladiator may have had the best ancient battle scene I've seen due to it's meticulous realism and accuracy.

"The Shawshank Redemption; when warden Norton throws the stone at the poster in the jail cell and it goes thru it,then pulls it down to reveal a big opening where Andy has escaped, blew my mind.

Frankly my Dear, I dont give a Damn! I know its a old chick flick but that sceene has to be one of, if not the, most famous of all time.

Braveheart - FREEDOM!!!!!!! Puts chills down your back.

Hoosiers - The final shot. I respect that so much due to the true nature in which it was filmed. They basically filmed what really happened. Best sports movie ever IMO.

Gladiator - When he passes and goes to his family. I didnt cry but dang it I almost did. I remember going to see that movie in 2000 not knowing what it was suppose to be about. I left with it in my own personal Top 10.

Heat - The Shootout in the streets! Quite possibly the best I've ever seen shot!

Glengarry Glen Ross - Coffee is for Closers Only! Put that coffee down! lol

Training Day - Denzel Washington at the end of the movie with Ethan Hawke. "King Kong, ain't got shi* on me!"

Wall Street - Greed is Good

The Green Mile - Killing John Coffey. I admit it, I cried.

6. The Deer Hunter - Russian roulette. Talk about intense and horrifying.

ever since seeing that scene, I have never been able to watch it since. Christopher Walken was amazing in that scene/movie!

Here are a few of mine:

The Empire Strikes Back - the attack on Hoth. Possibly my favorite scene ever.

A Fish Called Wanda - the scene of Cleese and Curtis when Cleese's wife comes home early.

Jurassic Park - first reveal of the dinosaurs. I am very picky about special effects being realistic and I never thought they'd be able to pull it off and make me feel like they I was looking at real dinosaurs.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - it was already mentioned, but I will bring up a different scene. The truck/car chase was incredible.

Goodfellas - the long, unbroken shot of entering the restaurant through the back door.

Unforgiven - ending scene with Eastwood coming into the saloon.

Cimarron - not well known (won best picture in 1931) or very good, but the scene of the rush to claim land when Oklahoma was opened for settlement was breathtaking.

Superman - scene where Superman first reveals himself to the world by saving Lois Lane when her helicopter went down. The effects would be easy today, but at the time, they were blowing people away.

Nosferatu - the scene of the vampire rising up from his coffin to a standing position.

Gandhi - the funeral scene

Major League - I don't know if it's just me, but the scene where Charlie Sheen is called out of the bullpen as "Wild Thing" starts playing feels very heroic to me.

They made a Major League 2, which was completely awful. Until the last game, when Ricky Vaughn comes out to it again. Only good part of that movie.

The first one, though, might be my most quoteable movie ever...

"Are you telling me Jesus Christ couldn't hit a curve ball?"
