Where are the recants from Spice and 3? They translated their anti-Duke psyche onto the national platform and then the platform collapsed. All charges dropped.
And where's 14-0 who kept trying to keep me in check even though I was one of the few headed toward the path of their innocence?
Shame on any one who fueled the revolt in what you may have believed to be the patriotic thing to do. And at least Don Imus has the guts to face his wrongdoings head-on.
Most importantly, let's all celebrate last year's Final 4 women's lacrosse team from Duke who, while losing to eventual national champ Northwestern in what many called the best lax match of 2006, adorned bracelets symbolizing their male counterparts' innocence only 2 months after the charges were pressed.

Where is the outrage over the 3 University of Minnesota football players who were recently accused of rape?

Boss Talker, are you talking about JJ Evans from the funny sitcom of years back. If so, that's pretty dy-no-mite.
Regarding Minnesota, the school just doesn't invoke the image of rich, spoiled white kids like Duke does and despite the Gophers' success in ice hockey and wrestling, the dislike of Duke brightens the spotlight. Even the Navy QB accused of rape a year ago got hurled around more than the Minn players. As Don Imus said this week, why isn't Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson criticizing the Duke accuser or the Minnesota football players. Perhaps, their causes wouldn't receive the same level of donations for this less sensational case, so the benefit-cost ratio is not high enough.

You are mistaken in pointing me out as somebody that pushed the story. I said early on that the rush to judgment was wrong and that if she was lying she deserved to go to jail for a long time. The closest thing I said to supporting the accuser was that if the boys were guilty they should pay for it. If I were you, I would not be too proud at how your University treated the accused. The professors that banded together and wrote that letter and the president that expelled the kids should be fired. The only person that tried to show any support was coach K. I try and keep my anti-duke message about the sports teams and their underachieving ways this year. The hoops team sucked so bad it almost takes the fun out of sweeping them...almost.

I'm right here. And that's the best you can do?
Sorry I tried to keep you in check. I guess I'm guilty there. I'll just have to somehow find a way to live with the guilt of trying to teach others how to live a balanced life.

Your liberal, main stream press at it's finest.
This guy's article is beyond biased, it's borderline insane.

This sums up my opinion....
Terry,
Here is hoping one of your kids is accused of a crime that he or she is compeletly innoncent of. Further more, I sincerely hope a hack (like you) writes an editorial peice about how we shouldnt feel sorry for your child because his/her rich daddy paid for some good lawyers to prove that your child was completely innocent of the charges that were fild against them.
Hey, wont it be fun for you when you learn your kid is doing what most college kids do? I mean gosh imagine your thrill to learn your son was involved in under age drinking in college and that he actually (gasp) was at a frat party where there were some strippers!!!! Crime king pin in the making!
Wont you enjoy spending enormous sums of life savings while your families name is repeatedly trashed nationally in the media? And after enduring all of that.... the lost money, the emotional stress and strain, reputations completely destroyed... you get to read an article from some idiot telling people not to feel sorry for you or your child.
God, I only pray YOU get to experience ALL OF this.

I never gave credit to the whole university, but only to those that deserve credit. I gave credit to the women's lax team. As you pointed out, Coach K's actions warrant some credit to. The professor's actions evidence a problem in society. As soon as someone's image is tarnished, people band against you even if no one knows the truth.

All I know is that Nifong needs to do some hard time so the rest of the DA WEASELS, in the US, will get the message.
This is how I view our present-day justice system - should I walk into a grisly scene, my first call should be to access a lawyer, not the cops. Pretty sad eh? Welcome to 2007. I don't trust anybody. Especially not some punk arse DA trying to work his way up the food chain.

There is a overall problem for lay people with the ease in which indictments are returned by a grand jury and with the difficulty in negotiating pleas with the Prosecutor's Office. Your point about prosecutors trying to move up the food chain addresses one root cause of the problem. I would add that the need for prosecutors to look or be tough against crime is an added element. With all of the new development occurring here and almost everywhere, there is pressure to "clean up" the neighborhoods so higher rents and home prices can occur. This is not only causing gentrification but also places pressure on the prosecutors to not budge. Regarding the indictment process, I think it is imperative to have the defendant's point of view heard by the grand jury before their decision is made as to whether there is probable cause to indict. Once there is an indictment, the defendant has little chance of exoneration and the Courts are pushing hard for plea agreements. Even the police when issuing charges must have probable cause to do so, but often only the complainant's side is heard before the decision is made. While police officers and prosecutors do this for a living and probably get pretty good at assessing one's credibility, the defendant has to be heard before it's too late. Unfortunately, while our Constitution affords rights to be represented, to have a trial by a jury of one's peers and to receive notice of the charges and an opportunity to be heard, the reality of practice can be quite different. I guess this system is still better than being thrown into the dungeon or catacombs without any legal rights, but to me it's still not just.
