Don Imus will be a guest on Al Sharpton's talk show today. I'm not sure how many of you have heard or care about the story, but here in Scarlet Knights city, it's the talk of the town. The black community leaders are calling for a boycott of MSNBC this Saturday unless and until Imus resigns or the network terminates his contract.
Now, I have 3 Rutgers undergraduate students working for me. Each of them is quick to point out how their team beat UConn and Duke, of course, and slow to reveal how disappointed they were in RU's performance against Tenn in the nat'l title game. Anyone who knows the team, such as my mail courier, knew that the Rutgers women were fearless, which is why they made it to the finals somewhat surprisingly. As many of these women were from tough upbringings such as the Bronx, New York and Newark, New Jersey, these girls had to be tough to achieve success. The only problem is they played scared against Tenn and everyone knows it.
What Imus said was reprehensible and he should have said nothing or talk about why the girls changed their behavior after being successfully aggressive the entire month before.
Some of you may have heard NY Yankees announcer and ESPN radio host Michael Kay's comments about how Joakim Noah's spoke after his team won the nat'l title as if he came of the street and not like someone who returned to Florida for his junior year. I have not heard anyone asking for his resignation.

Imus has such a history of making jokes like this, it's amazing he still has a job. From a TV Ratings point of view, there is very little chance Imus will be off the air. MSNBC is in 3rd place in ratings, and Imus has the most popular show on their network.
This guys thinks he is some serious jounalist, but is just another "shock-jock" when he makes comments like this.

'JACKASS'...................I can't think of any better word to describe Imus.
I like to look at his much younger wife, Diedre....or however you spell it.

It has been speculated that even if the I-Man remains, some of the polticos that frequent his show, will no longer do so for fear of losing some votes in 2008. And because the guest list is often what keeps viewers tuned in, the MSNBC decision-makers have some executive decisions to make.
I sense that they won't fire I-Man or cancel his show permanently, but they might be searching for some temporary relief whatever that might be.
Imus made a point this morning to mention that when he was publicly seeking to challenge the fed govt.'s position on sickle-cell anemia, which primarily affects African-Americans, there was not one black journalist who had contacted him with any information or support. He also said that he and his wife have black children at their ranch. We'll see what happens to him.

As long as the FCC isn't involved then I'm fine with any result. If Al Charleton can convince listeners and sponsors to bail on the goofball, fine. If Imus keeps his job, fine. Heck, I have no idea where he is on the radio dial anyway. Does he get worthwhile ratings from his radio show? Never heard his radio show once.

Bucky-what do you really think 'who cares' adds to the discussion?
What Imus said was pretty bad, but, he also should be taken with a grain of salt. He is a comedian, not a serious newsman. He has made remarks in the past. I really don't think the guy is racist.
Al and Jesse et al, should be focusing on the minnesota football situation. There has been no outcry over this whatsoever. An absolute double standard!
Is several times a year someone comes out and says something incredibly ignorant. They spend a lifetime building their career and in one sentence, they throw it all away. I think to myself, how can you be so stupid, you've seen what happened to this guy and this guy and this guy, you'd think people would learn and yet - there they go, talking before they think.
Here are just a few of the idiots whose career suicide should have taught Don Imus what, and what not, to say...
-Jimmy The Greek for his 'expert' analysis on the breeding practices of slaves as an explanation as to why African American athletes were better than white athletes.
-Al Campanis' opinion on why African Americans were woefully under represented in sports management and ownership.
-Tom Brookshires comparison of the University of Louisville's game score (100 points in one particular game) to the collective IQ of the starting 5 for that particular Cardinal squad - it was Tom's belief that the 100 points was probably higher than the collective IQ...
Marge Schott's admiration for Hitler as well as her pet name for Dave Parker; he was her 'million dollar n-word'...
- Howard Cosell refering to Redskins WR Charlie Brown as a 'little monkey'...
- Michael Richard's unique style of handling African American hecklers at his stand-up comedy routine...
-Mel Gibson's anti-semetic tirade during his arrest for DUI...
I'm sure there are others, and yet Imus is stupid enough to call a women's college basketball team, a bunch of nappy headed 'hos. I gotta say, he should have known better. There is no excuse. Plenty of idiots have made the mistake before him and he probably ripped on them on his own show. He deserves everything he's getting and that would include being fired.
