Isn't that how the song goes? OU down 20-6. WTF?! OU is a great team. Why don't they show up in bowls?

They really don't play much defense in the Big 12. Oklahoma isn't used to this.

We have the misfortune of playing with the thinnest line-up of the season in this bowl game. Everyone else got healthy and better (USC and LSU anyone) while OU lost 5 starters, a couple all-americans too. The game is not over, but it does not look promising at all. I have to agree that Stoops is a good head coach, but lousy at preparing a team to play. The motivation level has depended on player leaders since the departure of Mike Stoops and this team does not have any players on it that are motivational leaders.

Historical perspective for OU bowls :

24-16-1 (.598). That's 10th best among exhibition division teams with at least 10 post season appearances.

They let me down the last 4 years too, but the 40 prior to that they did just fine by me, so I cant be too mad. I have got to watch them play for 9 national titles and win 5 of them. That aint too bad imo. The hype they get is deserved because of the LOOOOONNNGGGG history of success. They are still successful, they just managed to lose 4 bowl games ina row.

LOOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGG history of success justifies current hype? Sounds like Notre Dame to me. They get hype because of what they did in the past.

I'd say all big time CF programs with a glorious history get preferential rankings ....especially pre-season rankings, in these stupid polls.....the 'name brand' recognition thing. It's unfair but part of the mythical make up of this sport. Lots of folklore.

True Hen, but FBC football cares so much about pure competition, they MUST keep this way. They must guarantee the great competition between corporate bowl sponsors for profit and advertising by guaranteeing big name teams in these games. So, for the sake of competition, we gotta support the BCS!!!! Ha ha, see, the FBS does care about competition.

LOOOOOOOOONNGGGGGGG history and the fact that on any given saturday they can, and usually do, beat anyone they play. Heck, everytime OU loses its like Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson. Everyone takes notice, it makes the headlines coast to coast, and people talk about and revel in it all over the place. OU had a pretty good season again this year. They won another conference title, whipped the number one team in the nation, and went to the BCS. I agree that a win to end the season would be nice, but given the foe and the severe handicap they had I was not that suprised.

Not down here. I didn't hear about OU's Texas Tech loss until late in the night on ESPN. I don't think there are as many people who "talk about and revel in it all over the place" as you think. Most people outside the plains region don't really follow OU, except to how it affect their team.

I'm just saying injuries are NEVER an excuse, so you shouldn't use them. And LOOOOOONNNNGGG history does not justify current hype. Only current history justifies current hype.

I would say the last couple years are very good ones. Do you disagree?!

:p Injuries never being an excuse is ridiculous and you know it. Don't give me this Thermopalyae Spartan last stand stuff.

 Had Tebow been out how much worse would Michigan have beaten Florida? Had Matt Flynn played vs. Arkansas do you think that would have been good enough to get the necessary three points to beat Arkansas - even if it went into the first OT? Had Bradford not gone down vs. Texas Tech do you think he would have fared better than OU's backup, who didn't do anything until half way through the 4th quarter? What if  Kevin Smith had missed a few games with a twisted knee at UCF do you think they'd have gone 10-3 before their bowl game? Considering the effort FSU put up totally depleted what if they had had those extra 36 players? Would that have been worth a TD vs. Kentucky? The list can go on but I think I've made my point here.

Jim, I'm not saying that in a disrespectful way. Maybe it's just from my past experiences, but injuries are never an excuse. But, I believe in a difference in excuse vs reason. The REASON OU played poor may be because their DL or LB played bad, missed tackles, whatever. But don't say "Player X was hurt, thats why we lost."

Football is a violent game. Injuries are part of it. Oregon blew out a solid USF team without Dixon. Stanford beat USC with Stanford playing it's 2nd string QB. Drew Bledsoe went down and a no-name Tom Brady took them to the Super Bowl. For every case of a team being affected by an injury(ies) there is a case of a team overcoming or even playing better despite them.

Injuries are a factor, because like I said football is a violent game. But they aren't an excuse. Miami and FSU in their glory days could reload every position on the field after an injury. Do you think OU losing those 5-7 players affected OU as much as WVU losing it's head coach?

Anyhow, it's just my personal style. Injuries are not an excuse. Nothing is for that matter. Just win or lose, and move on to the next one.
