Per ESPN, FOX, etc. Press conference scheduled for 4pm today in Gainesville to announce Billy Donovan will not go to Kentucky and remain at Florida, and that the four juniors will likely skip their senior seasons to go pro. I never thought I would see the day that a coach picks Florida over Kentucky in BASKETBALL. What a great day for Florida Basketball.

These are days of instant gratification, and I think history and legacy are playing a smaller role in college sports...moreso in basketball then football. I think "what have you done lately" matters most (which is why Tubby got fed up and left UK). I don't think Donovan will have much trouble recruting the same kids as Kentucky recruits, because I don't think UK's legacy is as interesting to kids anymore. So why leave somewhere you are loved and can have the same success.

The cynic in me says that he wants to go Pro, and is going to wait for Pat Reilly to retire as coach of the Heat, which might be as early as this year or next. So he's not going to jack up UK and then leave, creating a lot of bad blood.

i never understood why he'd make this move in the first place. i could understand if he was an alum but he has no real ties to kentucky. yes, he was an asst. there over a decade ago, but that was just a arbitrary job he landed because he followed coach pitino there.

what's he's built at uf since 2000 basically is equal to what kentucky has accomplished since 1979. each have two national titles, 3 national championship game appearances, and kentucky has an extra final four in 1993. i could understand this move in 1997, but this is 2007 and at this moment is time uf is just a flat out better job. and that's because of what billy has been able to accomplish there. good move in my opinion.

Tom Izzo is their new #1 man.

Good move by Donovan. Rather than follow history and tradition at UK, create your own at UF!!
