What if we had a five bowl setup prior to the national championship game which would be the sixth BCS level bowl?

Last year is history so I will not try to rearrange who woudl have done what to whom and where it would have been administered. Also, bring the highest ranked between the Mountain West and WAC into their default hoem bowl game - the Fiesta Bowl. The Big 12 defaults to the Cotton Bowl. This year however has the national championship game in the Sugar Bowl. That would be your "Plus One" game.

ROSE(Pasadena): Southern Cal vs. Illinois
FIESTA (Tempe): Hawaii vs. Ohio State
COTTON (Dallas): Oklahoma vs. Kansas
ORANGE (Miami): Virginia Tech vs. Georgia
LEGION (Birmingham): LSU vs. West Virginia

SUGAR (Plus One): Whoever comes out #1 and #2 from the above bowls.

Note #1 Ohio State isn't in the Rose Bowl but #? USC is. Alternate between having the Rose Bowl host the Pac Ten or Big Ten champ if it can accommodate (not Plus-One site).

Now when the Orange Bowl is the Plus-One site, play the ACC Champion in the Peach Bowl. When the Rose Bowl is Plus-One then use the Holiday, when the Fiesta also use the Holiday. And finally, when the Cotton Bowl is the Plus-One have the Big 12 champ play in the Alamo Bowl or Reliant Bowl in Houston.

Just brainstorming so I might have some inconsistencies here. What do you all think?

If the next step is a plus-one, I'm curious how they would format it. Are BCS wildcards automatically the top available teams? What about bowls with open slots? Do you pair highest versus lowest or do you guarantee as many teams control their destiny when possible? This setup sucks for #3 and #4 if they must win and hope one or two teams lose when a straight up four team playoff allows them to control their destiny. Most importantly, do the highest ranked teams control their destiny or can one bowl winner leapfrog another? No doubt those in charge will come up with the worst possible plus one.

I'll have to get back with you as I'm getting ready for PSU vs. A&M. You ask some good questions. Basically I'm trying to get them into their faimiliar regional locations and also trying to get 1 vs. lowest, 2 vs. next to lowest etc. Might not be equitable but it tries to marry the old bowl system plus a playoff. Probably sucks.

I wouldn't miss New England - New York for history in the making for some useless college exhibition game....

These questions and more are why I think this form of a "plus one" would be silly. It could actually make things worse than they are right now. What if #1 and #2 happen to be in the Big Ten and PAC 10? What if those teams have to face off in the Rose Bowl while #3 plays say #10 in another bowl? Why should #3 get to play #10 to get into the BCS Championship Game while #2 has to play #1 to get to the same game? Or what if #1, #2, #3, and #4 are all in different bowl games...if they all won, what will we have accomplished?

I really hope that the Rose Bowl/Big Ten/Pac 10 can let go of this tradition nonsense and allow an actual 4-team playoff to happen. If the top 4 teams won't be seeded with 1v4 and 2v3, with the winners advancing to the title game, I honestly don't see the point and would actually prefer keeping what we have now. Or if the Cotton Bowl must be added, just have 5 BCS Bowl Games (10 teams) with the top 2 playing in the title game which rotates between Rose, Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar, and Orange. Basically what we had from 1998 through 2005, but with the Cotton being added. No piggyback nonsense which wouldn't be needed anymore since there would be enough slots to satisfy BCS and nonBCS conferences.

College Football needs to essentially step on the Rose Bowl, the PAC 10 and Big 10's collective necks. Boot them out of the "division" until they cave. The game did it in the 1990's, they can do it again.

Talk radio here today basically stated that other than the Big 10 and PAC 10 the MAJORITY of Div IA AD's and Presidents support at least a serious look at a playoff. Those to conferences stand in the way of progress, and really should be shown the door... Let the useless, clueless idiots in those two worthless conferences go form their own association somewhere else.

There isn't much I say that you'd agree with anyway Zoom. I'm a college football fan and care little for millionaires getting paid by a bunch of idiots who'll pay over $150 a ticket to sit in the cold, drink crummy beer, by stupid clown suits, paint themselves up and worship these guys. I watch on the tube rather than pay to sit outside on a cold bench or chair.

So, why did they fall on their knees when the Pac Ten and Big Ten decided on their own sweet time to join in. And Ohio State and USC seem to be major contributors to the fanbase. Kick them out? I'll not hold my breath.
