Florida State vs. Kentucky - we'll see how deep FSU really is and how well developed all of those 5-star athletes are. Bowden should be fired for "lack of institutional control". Hell! Switzer was and for good reasons. I think the cheating scandal ought to kick these students out of school - it does at a military academy.
Illinois vs. USC - The Rose Bowl was hell bent on making it a traditional bowl. Trying to have it both ways. I am shocked that either Hawaii or Georgia wasn't invited. Also, Illinois is "good" and had a couple of really good games this year but also got stuffed by Iowa.
LSU vs. Ohio State - Buckeyes had the Heisman winner last year vs. a Florida team that could have gone 7-5 in the regular season. Bucks win over a certifiable corpse like Michigan (only 14-3) showed me that in an important game they still can't move the ball with the power necessary. LSU's defense rocks the Bucks.
Georgia Tech vs. Fresno State - I remember vividly a Georgia Tech team taking a meaningless trip out to the west coast to play a bowl game. Other than the band and cheerleaders and a gaggle of parents who came out from Atlanta? And to the beautiful frozen tundra of Noise, Idaho? Hill will have his Bulldogs rady to play as they've been bowl-starved for a couple of years. A 6-5 Utah crushed Tech a few yars back, I expect Fresno to slam the ACC is a bowl game that probably costs more to travel to than the financial reward.
Michigan vs. Florida - Gators are used to being in fight-for-your-life scuffles. Wolverines are anemic even on a good day. Tim Tebow will single handedly embarrass Big Blue. PS: In all honesty, Rich Rodriguez isn't going to get it done in Ann Arbor.

..and a merry xmas to you Jim.!.our most erudite poster comethorugh with another hilarious, asecerbic zinger...i like your list and would add oklahoma st- indiana and tcu -houston, 2 games i would not watch on espn 2 during the regular season 4 certain. as faras rodriguez ressurectrng michigan...i think 9-4 for 2 seasons is a reasonable expectation and then he has to start beating osu, wisc, ill-& win a significant bowl...but you have to realize the stale stench of 1964 style football is FINALLY evicted form Scehembechler Hall and we cannot -- for now-- be unhappy with a competent outsider as the selection...

How is it that the "stale stench of 1964 style football" is the 3rd winning program from 1964 to 2007, won a national championship in 1997 and have been to a bowl every year since 1975?

WINNINGEST PROGRAMS 1964-2007
1. Nebraska (423-107-5 .795)
2. Ohio State (387-116-8 .765)
3. Michigan (390-120-8 .760)
4. Oklahoma (382-130-9 .742)
5. Penn State (382-134-3 .739)
6. Southern Cal (369-138-15 .721)
7. Texas (368-143-6 .718)
8. Alabama (375-147-5 .716)
9. Tennessee (367-144-14 .712)
10. Florida State (366-146-9 .711)

Another knee jerk reaction by another school. Lloyd Carr was a class individual and I hope he enjoys retirement. Ole Miss fired David Cutcliff and look where they are as a result. Houston Nutt was forced out at Arkansas and Bobby Petrino will be lucky to win as much as Nutt did at Arkansas.

Very Merry Christmas to all, BTW.

Don't forget Jeff Bower being outed at Southern Miss. They will NEVER be any better than he had them.

Yes, that is a real bewildering event. Bower made USM a perinneal bowl team with an impressive record and regular season upsets galore. He gets them to advance the program, gets dollars flowing and then this happens. How do you feel about Bower being seriously looked at by West Virginia or even UCLA (he has a successful southern recruiting system and might be able to bring a few to Morgantown or LA.

B-Jim- LLoyd will limp out 8-7 in his last 15 games after fla., with 2/3 5 loss seasons as his finish and... ...app st to live down forever...not only that, but if yout hink michiagn doesnt play boring football with a deadly dull, ultracautious offense that has hamstrung their tremendous skill position talent, then its time to get a good cleaning on t he scarlet and gray tinged glasses before the bowls resume tonight...lloyd carr played dull, utterly old fashioned and predictable ball...a big 10 d-coordiantor was quoted as saying they have a playbook less complciated than many high schools...a usc lb was quoted after r4ose bowl last year that they knew every play in every situaiton mich was going to run form just studying a few days of film......carr could not motivate his team to win vs. equal level atheltic ability the past 4 years...and a far as his "real" persoanlity..my oh my, are you naive...lloyd is well known in and around ann arbor to be a sour, cranky, cold curmudgeon in real life...next, you a re gonna say woody was gentle and poised and bob knight is "misunderstood".....
