View Full Version : So does the Petrino debacle....

....open up the door for Miles to go to UM? I apologize if this was addressed below (didn't go through the thread).

I mean, seriously. Petrino may have just done Miles and UM a huge PR favor. He's essentially run interference for Miles. Right now Miles could run a bus full of orphans and nuns off the road and still walk away from LSU smelling like a rose.

Until Michigan names a new Head Coach, Miles has to be considered a candidate, regardless of what he says.

I don't know if he's even 50-50, but I would still consider him the "leading" candidate.

Some feel that it might eb Ball State coach Brady Hoke. Yikes.....

No way in hell he would walk away smelling like a rose. However, the talking heads might spend a greater time talking about the 'trend of lying coaches', rather than singling him out. Petrino could almost be excused because he signed the deal figuring he'd have Vick. Miles has an NC caliber team and had basically called Kirk Herbstriet a liar. That alone would give the media ammunition to trash the guy mercilessly.

If Miles does NOT take the job he is an idiot. There is a small handfull of shools that you do NOT refuse the chance to coach at. Michigan, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and USC. Those are the best programs in the history of the sport and on a level all thier own in regards to fan-base, history, facilites, and success. LSU is a top school for right now, but they have not been anything special in the past and five years from now, they wont be anything special. Michigan does not hire and fire coaches. They pick one and stick with him. This might be Les Miles only chance to get there, he better take it. After he runs LSU back into the middle of the pack of the SEC, they wont want him.

He'd be an idiot for staying with a better program, and making MORE money? Ok

Miles has LSU at a level RIGHT NOW, that Michigan may never get to.

respectfully disagree Tyler.
Until Saban got there, what had LSU done in decades? Miles may be a pretty good coach, and I wouldn't call him a caretaker, but he's still a year or two from being truly evaluated on his own merits and not just living off of what Nick built (including many of his recruits). The fact that Pelini is leaving won't help either.
If he were to go to Michigan, he'd be in a situation where he needs to start from scratch and revitalize a program, much like Bob Stoops, Mark Richt and Jim Tressel did at their respective schools...

I will be shocked if Miles goes to Michigan. He would look like an idiot if he went there now...what kind of credibility would he have? Having said that, I hope he is the guy and so do many, many other Buckeye fans.

BTW, LSU isn't close to what Michigan can offer and just because they're ranked higher right now, that's only a small portion of it. Michigan is a far superior university, they have a greater history and tradition, unlimited resources and despite the fact that they had a tough year this year, they historically have one of the best recruiting classes in the country and with the proper change in culture; they can quickly return to being a perenial top 10 team.

its that culture that has been killing them for years. Michigan has unlimited resources, etc., but they have set an all time high in terms of arrogance. The whole "Michigan Man" thing, starting with Bo, is a farce. Its more like good ole' boy cronyism...

Not that it would necessarily make a difference to a prospective head football coach, but there is no comparrison between LSU and the University of Michigan as educational institutions. UM is always rated among the top 3 or 4 public universities in the US while LSU is just a 3rd tier school, according to USN&WR.

Hen, resident cynic ;) , quality of education is important to some prospective coaches. Heck, it even matters to a good portion of the athletes...

Why doesn't the more prestigious job, Michigan, pay more than LSU?? Assuming you think its such a better job.

This is like being a stock broker at JP Morgan for 5 years, building up a great pipeline, and LEAVING for Goldman Sachs for half the money. Both great jobs, but at this point it makes no sense to switch.

BTW- Miles is recruiting every bit as well as Saban was. Check out this years class, and the previous 2 for reference.

If LSU Jeff! They will hire a great replacement. Losing Jimbo Fisher sure hurt didn't it?? Crowton's O has been better in its first year (after loising Jamarcus, Bowe, and Davis) than any of Jimbo's offenses.

You don't turn in a fully loaded 740i just to re-model your old Firebird. Miles will make the smart decision.
