That's why the game will probably move to Charlotte in 2008.

Looks like most Florida based bowl games.

Well, they made the failed assumption that Miami and FSU would be playing most years. It's nonsense that they didn't put the game in a central location.
But again, that's another problem with the expansion plan. Boston College brings nothing to the conference in terms of support. Could you imagine if they had gotten Syracuse as originally planned? It's hard to imagine, but they would have had an even smaller crowd if Virginia had won the Coastal.

When the ACC expanded and the decision was made to play the ACC Championship Game in Jacksonville, I remember reading that that there was some fear that if Miami or Florida State were not in contention for the National Championship, the attendance for the ACC Championship Game probably would not be a sell-out. The past two years (2006-Wake Forest-Georgia Tech) & (2007-Virginia Tech-Boston College) have been the ACC's worst nightmare come true.

Yeah, I think they did make that assumption. Charlotte would be the best location. Boston College just doesn't fit the ACC. They are doing very well, obviously, but they fit the Big East so much better. I'd even like to see them in the Big Ten.
I think the ACC coaches like it only because it gives them a chance to recruit a bit up there whereas before they had less access and exposure in that part of the country. I heard that turnout costed BC a spot in the Peach Bowl in favor of Clemson. Too bad. Auburn vs BC would've been a great one.

yeah bejim, it seems the ACC Championship has all the hype of a low tier bowl game. The SEC and Big 12 CCG's are great, intense and very entertaining. The unofficial Big 10 CCG, OSU vs UM each year, is far better to watch even for a Southern guy than the ACC CCG. Kind of funny how the ACC's power grab hasn't worked out so well for them.

LSU to Atlanta is about the same distance as Va Tech to Jacksonville.

You didn't know that the ACC is a basketball conference?

Yeah, that's what we keep hearing from the Yellow Jackets. Well, before they lost to Indiana and Vandy in consecutive games.
Maybe Mark Price can go back and play with them, couldn't hurt.

The location isn't the problem. Had Clemson played VT, there would have been a much larger turnout. But even moving the game to Charlotte won't make that game a sellout if teams like Wake Forest and BC keep going. They just don't have the large fan / alumni base that other schools have.

I'm just laughing at the pundits from last year who laughed when GT-WF didn't sell out... Sure, we didn't sell out the stadium, but we brought a whole lot more fans than that right there!

..division.
THat hope of having them play in the title game was too optiimistic.
Put them in together, and you have a better chance of getting one in.
Of course, Miami wouldn't travel either.

I guess at the time the ACC was pursuing expansion, Miami and FSU were still very good. Karma and greed backfired on the ACC.

Yes, and the people that did fill their seats were wearing orange and maroon. VT didn't bring as many people as they should have, but that embarrassment of a picture shows a fairly strong Hokie turnout, and a virtually nonexistent BC turnout.

The folks of Boston would rather watch the Patriots on TV than attend a BC game. Week to week, that is likely always true.
