Another FF banner (most of any BT team) that I hope we get to keep this time. ;)

I'm trying to think of a football equivalent to OSU bball. A few off the top of my head: U-dub, UCLA and GT. Concentrated periods of greatness, followed by unblemished periods of mediocrity.

Memphis' foul trouble killed their chances at pulling it out. Conspiracy theorists feel free to riff away.

It's all fixed.

The refs refused to call fouls on Ohio State when Tennessee was taking fade away three pointers. Ohio State had no business winning that game. You MUST call fouls when teams take fade away jumpers from 25 feet. What were they thinking??

Well, the ball has been bouncing the favorites' way all tournament. This has seen the highest concentration of high seeds in the sweet 16/elite 8 I have seen in many years. In past years at least a few of those last second shots and even mid-court desperations went in resulting in a 14 beating a 3 or a 6 beating a 1 or such. Not this year. Finally a 1 lost....but to a 2 who will not probably win the whole thing.

Zoom, what I find interesting is when people not so subtley imply that the games are getting called for the top seeds/"the fix is in." Don't get me wrong, breaks happen. But breaks/odd calls happen in every tournament.

It's just always been my belief that if there ever was anything close to a "fix" being in, it would be for the underdog. I would think the ratings would go way up if we had more dogs in this fight. Last year's GW run had to be good for ratings. More casual fans will tune in to watch a cinderella than to watch a NC play in another FF.

Found this list on Bucknuts. Feel free to correct any mistakes/oversights.

Removing OSU's '99 appearance still leaves 'em 6th on the list.

If you're not an OSU fan, I'll bet this is pretty surprising to you.

UM fans, don't you guys have 6 appearances?

Most Final Four Appearances (inclusive of Saturday's games):

1. North Carolina - 16
1. UCLA - 16
3. Duke - 14
4. Kentucky - 13
5. Kansas - 12
6. Ohio State - 10
7. Indiana - 8
7. Louisville - 8
9. Arkansas - 6
9. Cincinnati - 6

actually, the ratings stunk for last year's final four. one of the many reasons the mid-majors were subbed or match up with one another early in the tournament this year. if florida wins tomorrow we'll have half of the final four from 2006 back. the ncaa better hope florida and north carolina win tomorrow or you'll have another ratings stinker with oregon and georgetown.

UCLA vs. UF, OSU vs. G'town

not bad for ratings.

A BCS championship redux on Monday with UF beating tOSU for the national championship when tOSU ended the regular season at #1?

I like your thoughts! I would love that!

I bet you would Don.
I would HATE that. Not that I really hate UF or anything, It would just suck to see UF beat OSU again for a championship, especially since I live in south florida and have a good amount of UF friends. I'd never hear the end of it!
I think OSU will play UCLA for the title, with UCLA winning (hope I'm wrong). I think UCLA has more experience, having played for a title last year.

Come one Jeff! You're a Buckeye fan in SoFla, of course you hate UF. I live here, and even I can't stand some of the UF fans. Another title is going to make a lot worse for non-Gator fans.

well, maybe now I hate UF, but prior to them beating OSU down in the BCS game, I really had no problem with them. I actually liked Ron Zook even though he wasn't a great coach. If they were to beat OSU again?? yeah, it would suck...

At this point I wouldn't at all be surprised if its Georgetown vs UCLA for the title.

Frankly, I cant stand Noah.... If the UCLA staff is smart they will get in the ear of the officials about how he NEVER sets a proper screen. They could and should be calling a moving screen violation on him.

It's all bogus, boys.

Kansas & OSU should have automatically been appointed to play in the championship game( because they were 1 & 2). Polls should decide which teams play in sports championship games.....not elimination competition. The BCS way is the intelligent way !!!!!

ah, familiar rumblings from the Hen. Welcome back..

NCAA basketball has its flaws too sir. You know that. The winner of the NCAA tournament is annointed national champion, even though they may be far from the best team, only the team that peaked at the right time and regardless of record in regular season and conference tourney. Its almost as if the regular season accomplishes nothing more than seeding for the tourney.

Love em or hate em, these are some great years to be a Gator

Hopefully Tim Tebow turns out to be a terrible QB

As long as UF beats UGA in just about everything that counts, I'm fine with their fans!

Then again GT doesn't play UF in anything these days...

Early signs are that Tebow looks pretty good- rocket arm! Hopefully all the running TT was doing last year was just to fool the opposition into thinking he can't throw :) ...Or at least I hope.

I like the fact that he gets two (typical)gimmie games before Tennessee.

agree its "great to be a G8R" these days, and I do hope Tebow doesn't turn out to be good. It was Leak, not Tebow, that lead them to the title, even though Tebow was more popular.

Ya know what I hate about UF? I hate that there was nothing even remotely controversial about the way they whipped our arse. I got nothing to whine about. It sucks. :(

A bball title. A football title. And 2 wins away from another bball title. That's what ya call a sweet ride.

If OSU doesn't win the title, I hope it's because of a loss to either G-Town or UCLA. I couldn't stomach the inevitible "bridesmaid" articles. To play in the football and bball title games is a nice feather in your cap in and of itself, BUT....to lose to the same team in both cases?????? (((((SHUDDER)))))

On the flip side, I want to meet/beat UF in the title game should we beat G-Town. Would really feel sweet to knock off UF. Sorry Mark, but I find Noah annoying and Horford a little too in love with himself for my taste. Great team though. Can't deny that.

No offense taken! Noah is a lot like a Bill Laimbeer type player. The only people who like him are his own fans. "Flex" Horford is the better talent of the two, but Joakim is the unquestioned leader. As for the matchups, I am not excited about playing UCLA, despite UF's advantage inside. Their defense is very aggressive, and UF was been sloppy with the ball a lot this tournament. With a F4 as loaded as this one, there are no upsets anymore.

Absolutely agree about this basketball system's flaws ( the regular season champs should be the auto qualifiers - not a weekend tourney champ)..... however, any sport that lets 'voted' opinions determine which teams play in a national championship is pure garbage......not championship sport at all. Bowl division CF still has the dumbest championship system in the history of world team sports.

Florida Gators - 2006 NCAA Basketball Champs, and 2006 Tostitos Football Champs.

Appy State is the 2006 NCAA D1 Football Champion

GatorGrad

Actually, my hat, tshirt, etc all say that Florida is the 2006 Football National Champs! :)

And Tostitos National Champs has zero meaning. The technical correct term is BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. But right or wrong, 99% of college football fans recognize UF as the 2006 National Champs.

We all know you think the current format is a sham. And I agree. But why drive this home on every single post you ever write? We all know where you stand. Most of us understand and agree with you. Yes, we need a playoff. No need to beat a dead horse.
