IMO, the winner of this hyped up award should be a steller student as well as a great player. He should be majoring in a legitimate college major with a high gpa and should be able to read and write on the college level and be able to speak coherently.

At least most of your criteria were met last year (I do not believe Troy Smith was a German naturalist - in fact I doubt you can find a college football player that meets that criterion ;) )
