UT is 7/9 from 3 point land. OSU isn't playing bad, but we're on the verge of being run off the court. I'm hoping the law of averages kicks in to slow these yahoos down. yeeeeesh!

the refs handed ohio state another game. the buckeyes shot 34 fts to ut's 17. the start of the 2nd half was and the ticky-tac fouls were nothing more to help tosu get back into the game. it might have been the first time in basketball history that a team was down 17 pts. at the half and was in the double bonus at the 12 min. mark. this isn't 4th grade rec. league where you try to help the other team out a bit. ohio state is a good team with a lot of talent that should rise and fall on its own merits. that hasn't happened the last 2 games. the ncaa and cbs are making sure they're going to get their ratings in the final four this year after cinderella george mason was blamed for dropping them last year.

The fouls were only 23-18. And Tennessee spent most of the time shooting from the perimeter. When one team attacks the basket more, they will generally shoot more free throws.

Plus, Oden, Hunter and Conley were all in foul trouble. If the fix was in, Oden and Conley wouldn't even have sniffed htree fouls.

i understand that attacking the basket equates to more fouls. but come on. the start of the 2nd half was ridiculous for ut on both ends of the court. a drive and a bump at 10 ft. on osu end ended up on the books. a lay-up attempt on ut's end with a little bump ended up as a play on.

i've reffed youth league basketball for 10+ years and the start of the 2nd half last night is what we do to make the other team feel better. give them a couple of fouls, put them on the free throw line, etc. the difference is the team down 23-6 at the half with a bunch of 5th graders doesn't have the the firepower to come back from 17 down. OSU does! that's why last night is so troublesome to me.

i'm not saying the fix was in per se. but the officials need to be more professional at that level. the same foul in the 1st 5 sec.'s of the game should be called in the last 5. if you've watch enough basketball you can see this happen all the time. one team jumps up to a big lead, a couple of questionable calls later, 7-8 free throws in the books, a forced TO or two, and a couple of 3's chalked up... the team that dominated for most of game is down by two. all started by the refs not doing their jobs. like i said, this ain't rec. league. we're talking about a billion dollar business that lets one of its lowest paid employees dictate the eventual champion because they wanted to glide for 8 mins. during a game. nonsense.

The fix was in! Those officials were awful last night. Oden is just such a thug

You guys are killing me. Oden sits with 3 fouls with approx 5 min to go in the first half! Ticky tack stuff called on him to boot. "The fix was in" alright.

Don't give me this crap. It was a great comeback. Not only was it a great comeback; OSU was back in the game by about the 16 min mark. Took the lead at approx the 10 minute mark! UT simply played way over its head in the first half. C'mon H.I. even you have to agree to that. You don't start out 7/9 from 3 point land and expect to keep shooting bombs at that torid pace.

As the 2nd half wore on you could see UT feeling it slip away. They looked shell-shocked. To their credit, though, they didn't quit. Just like OSU didn't quit. OSU earned the victory. If they were "lucky," it was against Xavier. As Xavier should've fouled right after their kid missed the FT that would've iced the game. Still, though, a 3-bomb to tie. Somebody had to make the ball go in the basket. Ron Lewis, baby!

I don't believe OSU has the maturity/experience to win it all, but the way they're winning these games, down the stretch, is very similar to our football title run in '02. I love the never-give-up attitude of these kids. Play on!

HAHAHAHAHAHAA

A 4th grader could figure out why Ohio State went to the line so many more times than UT.

Why can't HI??

you missed my point. i stated that that at the start of the 2nd half the "professional" college officials treated your beloved buckeyes like we ("non-professional" rec. league officials) would treat a 5th grade team that was down 17 at the half. The difference, the 5th graders have zero % chance of coming back. ohio state, a good team with a lot of talented players, doesn't need to be treated like a 5th grade team that just scored 6 pts. in the 1st half. they're better than that. and should be treated as such. that's my point.

foxsports.com kevin hench's take on the 2nd half of the osu/ut game.

Then, in the second half, Ohio State enjoyed a procession to the foul line, where it shot 29 free throws in the final 20 minutes. As Bruce Pearl pointed out, Mike Conley, Jr. shot 14 free throws to his star Chris Lofton's zero. For the game, the Buckeyes shot 35 free throws, making 23. The Vols shot 17, making only eight. Tennessee lost despite making more total field goals, more 3-point field goals, grabbing more rebounds and having fewer turnovers. Takes a lot of whistles to make up for all that.

Did you watch the game?

How is Tennessee supposed to get to the line when they are shooting fade away jumpers from 25 feet?

Ohio State's gameplan in the second half was to take it to the hoop. Conley and Lewis drove to the hoop almost every possession. Lofton drove to the basket once MAYBE twice in the entire game. It doesn't take a 5th grader to figure out that a team that attacks the basket is going to shoot more free throws than a team that almost entirely relies on three point shooting.

I know Pearl is a much more intelligent man than that, but he definitley proved himself to be a soreloser.

By the way, Oden has stayed out of foul trouble pretty much this entire year. He never fouled out before the NCAA tournament. If there is this huge conspiracy, why is it that Oden is getting so many fouls?? He is averaging 22 minutes a game because of foul trouble.

1. Perhaps Lofton should try driving to the hoop more.

2. maybe the Vols should work on their free throw shooting.

3. the game consists of: making FGs, 3 point FGs, rebounding, executing fewer turnovers and...they forgot one. MAKING FREE THROWS!

Wanna get to the line? Then drive the hoop more. But when your rainbow bombs are falling arse backwards into the hoop (UT hit 7 of their first 9 threes. no need to drive the hoop when everything is falling through the net.) why on Earth would you feel the need to generate points at the foul line?

OSU went to the line 9 more times than UT. When ya watch the game it's hard to believe we only had a foul differential of 9. Our 2nd half strategy clearly wasn't rocket science. Me thinks these sports writers ought to do a little more analysis before they submit their articles.
