Emphasize *SPECULATION*
Just saw it mentioned (OSU's Scout board) that Glen Mason's name was being tossed around. Tough, old school guy that loves the running game. Might be a good fit for Nebraska. My only concern would be his defenses while he was at Minnesota. Just awful. And we all know that NU needs an upgrade on defense. Upgrade...lemme, lemme, lemme (just saw the commercial with Beyonce)
Zoom, what ya thinking?

how old is Mason? I think he's around 60 if I'm not mistaken. I think they'll go for someone younger like Pelini or Turner Gill.

If you are emailing him perhaps your emails are ending in the junk mail folder. Happens to me with hotmail account from time to time. Even accounts that I had received email from in the past, something changes and they get filtered into my junk folder later.

Mason is 57 years old. I'd be pretty surprised if they went with him - I'd expect someone tied to Nebraska to get the job.
Having said that though, I think it's amazing how attitudes can change. Last year after Mason was fired, everyone assumed he'd get another chance to coach again but that it would be at a non-BCS school or at a BCS doormat. This year, after seeing the Gophers go 1-11 under a new coach, he's being mentioned for major jobs such as Nebraska. Granted, Nebraska hasn't exactly been an elite program lately, but it's still a big job.

GG- what are your thoughts on Brewster? Haven't really been following recruiting lately, how is he doing? That is supposed to be his strength. I know his son decommited to Illinois to play for him.

doesnt anyone at Neb. recall minnesota's abysmal defenses the last few years under mason?.collapse with soemthing like a 35-3 lead vs tex tech in bowl lead to his firing last year...come to think of it, he might fit in, as minnesota played exactly the kind of HORRIBLE defense that is a current big 12 trademark!

Well, the team was TERRIBLE this year - easily the worst Gopher team I've ever seen (I'm too young to have seen the even worse 1983 team). However, I'm willing to give the staff a pass on this year - they introduced new systems on both sides of the ball. A lot of Gopher fans have been very critical of how he stayed with those systems despite the fact that we obviously don't have the talent to run them successfully yet (especially on defense) but in my opinion, this early on in his tenure, the important thing is to showcase the system you intend to use long term. Then you can show potential recruits the type of system they'll be playing in, plus they can see the immediate playing time available to them. And anyone looking at coming to play for us probably figures he'll be starting the opener next year!
At this point, we're having our best recruiting year in a LONG time - I think we're rated somewhere in the low 30's right now. We could move up or down depending on who we get to fill in our last spots (and who gets poached by the big programs at the last minute). A couple of weeks ago, someone compared this year to last year based on the number of other BCS offers our recruits had - last year's class had 24 players with a total of 21 offers from other BCS schools among them. The 18 verbal commitments we had at the time the comparison was made had 55 other such offers. Now, it's always debatable who really had offers from where, but I think that stat at least shows that we're getting better athletes this year. Of course, until their names are on the dotted line, none of this means all that much.
Abd yes, his son Clint decommitted from Illinois and came here last year and we're still hopeful that his son Nolan will decommit from Texas and play here too. Nolan would probably be our starting safety next year if he came here.

wasn't 1983 the year Nebraska hung like 84 on 'em?

Yep - that was the year... Nebraska 84-13, Ohio State 69-18, Wisconsin 56-17, Illinois (featuring All-Big Ten TE Tim Brewster) 50-23, Michigan 58-10 and Iowa 61-10 were some of the fun scores from that season. :)
