I don't want to be homeristic, but dammit, I can't help it right now, watching this UT vs UK game, which just entered OT number 4, I can't help but say the SEC has been the most entertaining conference race I've ever seen!!! It seems damn near every important game is going overtime this year in this conference, or down to the wire. It's just an amazing conference race. I'm speechless except to say: SEC football is just freakin' awesome!

My God. 4th OT. UT gets a personal foul, starts 4th OT from 40 yd line. Looks like that penalty has doomed UT....and they score on the 1st play!!! Wow. And got the 2pt conversion. If UT holds on to win....they deserve that spot in Atlanta!

I really wanted Kentucky to win - snap a 22 game losing streak - send Georgia into title game vs. LSU. Well, if Georgia beats Tech they ought to get a BCS at-large bid.

I talk to myself a lot. It's the only way the voices talk back!
What a game. UT vs LSU. If UT comes full circle from getting handled pretty well by Cal to winning the SEC, gotta hand it to Fulmer for a fine coaching job. I feel awful for UK though. Woodson may have made it if he committed to running it in a bit quicker. He hesitated and the DE caught him. Little things like that are what seperates programs that can't get over the hump from those that can.
So, what is your take on Tennessee vs. LSU. I think the Vols will make a run of it for awhile but LSU will win in a close one. Notice how I picked LSU? That means Tennessee wins in a rout (he he).
Arizona State lost and Oregon is trailing UCLA 9-0 midway through the 4th. I think with Kansas beating Missouri OU moves up to #7, LSU drops to #6.
Kansas
Ohio State and West Virginia in a dead heat
Georgia might go to #4
Virginia Tech #5
LSU #6
Oklahoma #7
Southern Cal #8
Hawaii #9
Missouri #10
Just shooting from the hip so they're probably totally screwed!

I think UT wins it. LSU is beat up and morale is spiraling downward. LSU's pass defense has looked suspect, and UT's passing game looked like it is rolling right now. UT by 6.

I don't know if there are any Tennessee fans on this board, but if there are....congrats on the division crown! This has just been one of those seasons for Tennessee where everything fell their way. Good for Phil Fulmer. I mean they get blown out at Florida and at Alabama, then win crazy games down the stretch against South Carolina, Vandy, and now Kentucky to finish 6-2. Didn't have LSU or Auburn on the schedule either. And now they get LSU, fresh off the heartbreaking 3 OT loss to Arkansas that knocked them out of the BCS Title picture, in the SEC Championship Game on Dec 1st in Atlanta. LSU is reeling, Tennessee is jacked up. Won't be surprised at all to see Tennessee win the 2007 SEC Championship next weekend. I am convinced that it is just their year.

Hard to argue with most entertaining. Still wondering if any of the SEC teams can play defense this year though...

Is there anybody around here , besides me, that doesn't like this overtime system ?

I totally agree with you Hen. And it fact, as I was driving home from Charlottesville yesterday, I almost had to pull over to prevent me from fainting. Why? Because Beano Cook was on some radio show, and I AGREED WITH HIM!
Beano said he hates the current OT system, because all these records are being destroyed. 7 touchdowns in a game just because you go to 4 OT periods? It's absurd. Plus, the current system almost completely takes the Special Teams out of the equation. That's stupid. Special Teams (particularly if you are a VT fan) are 1/3 of the equation.
Beano suggest something I always figured would make the most sense. A sudden death quarter, but both teams have at least once chance on offense. So if the first team takes the kickoff and manages to score, the other team gets at least one chance to score as well. After the first 2 series, then it's sudden death.
I have no idea who thought up this 'start the ball on the opponents 25' idea, but I think its absurd.
PS. Beano Cook predicted the Hoos would win, so that was just another nail in their coffin.

Put the ball on the 50 instead of the 25. Have to get at least one first down to get into FG range. But like the NFL version even less as both teams need to be guaranteed a possession.

Agreed. 25 yard line is too close and takes away part of the play book.

My personal order of preference, NCT, would be :
1) Let ties stand. If teams battle evenly for 60 minutes...well, that's the most accurate indicator of the contest just played...the tie score.
2) Sudden Death - offense , defense AND special teams all involved...and, of course the coin flip and the head coaches intuition. This would be the most dramatic, IMO and you wouldn't have these ridiculous basketball scores in the records books.
3) If you had to have something like we have now, at least limit it to one overtime possesion per team. If score still tied....game over, Tie Game....and start these OT posessions on the 50 yard line !

I am against ties, especially in conference title games...so I think some OT is needed. I'm not crazy about the current format either, but I don't know if there's a better option right now. Unlike most sports like baseball, basketball, hockey, etc...there just isn't a "perfect" way to do OT in football. One thing I definitely hate is how STATISTICS actually count in College Football OT. That is silly.

...UNFORGETTABLE as we followed Kentucky's valliant through "The Gauntlet"....from my kid dancing on the field on national Tv after the lsu thriller, to kickoff at the 25 yard line for the Florida game a week later, to her hands clasped in fervent prayer during big plays during the 4th quarter and overtimes vs Tennessee on our den couch yesterday....Count me as a Convert....
