If anyone watched last night's game between the Mavericks and the Suns, there should be no doubt that Steve Nash is a favorite to win his 3rd MVP in a row. I'm not saying guys like Kobe, Dirk, and LeBron aren't also worthy candidates, but just look at what Nash did with the game on the line. He scored 10 points in the final minute of regulation, including a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left. He finished with 32 points, 16 assists, and 8 rebounds. And he led the Suns over the best team in basketball on their home court. Meanwhile, Dirk, who had a great game otherwise, missed an 8' shot that could have won the game in overtime.
But this isn't about just one game, of course. Some say Nash is surrounded by great talent, while players like Kobe and Lebron have to do most by themselves. This is true (Stoudamire had 41 last night), but look what happened to the Suns when Nash was injured a few weeks ago. I think they went 1-3 in his absense. With all that talent, they still need the captain to steer the ship.
Steve Nash might not win the MVP again this year, but last night he proved again why he deserves it.
