Who is your team's most silent rival and why?
For Michigan football, it is definitely Michigan State. While everyone knows about the Wolverines rivalries with ND and OSU, MSU is left out of the mix. If you have any doubt, ask Michigan State fans what they think about Michigan.

For the longest time it was Illinois. But the more consistent pain in our arse has been Wiscy. A real rivalry has developed between our 2 schools. PSU has been a nice rival as well. I could be wrong but I believe, all time, we sit at 11-11 vs each other. Doesn't get any close than that.

We don't have any, I don't think.
The Hokies don't have any new rivalries that have developed in the ACC. Our two biggest rivals before leaving the Big East were UVA and Miami, are now they are both conference rivals. But neither are silent. Even West Virginia wasn't really a silent rivalry, although WVU wasn't VT's biggest rival, and VT wasn't WVU's biggest rival.
In the Big East, it was probably Pittsbugh. Pitt always played VT tough, and those games were always tougher than they should have been.
Maybe we'll develop a silent rivalry with Georgia Tech over the years, in terms of which is the real "Tech" of the ACC

In the ACC, I think UNC/Miami has potential to become a pretty good rivalry.

speaking of silent rivals....2 limping squads in a must-win game on sunday. I like the match ups that Maryland has but they just don't seem to come out ready to play. The first 10 minutes are going to be critical. If duke can get them in the slow down game, Terps are in trouble. Their half court offense has been poor.

Maryland-VT might heat up a bit too, considering there are so many VT students from or living in the DC area. That" more likely to be a rivalry than VT-GT probably.

I would have to say Wisconsin for us
I'm not sure UGA has any "silent" rivals, either. We're lousy with the screaming variety: Georgia Tech (traditional in-state arch-rival), Auburn (Deep South's oldest football rivalry -- really, the South's oldest, since the first UVA-UNC game was played months after the first UGA-AU game), Florida (the green, scaly monkey on our backs plus the Cocktail Party), and more recently Tennessee (since the conference expansion added the game to the yearly schedule versus rotation).
Tennessee might qualify, but it's gaining volume. For the first several years after SEC expansion, the East was all about Florida and Tennessee. More recently, it's about Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia. The Tennessee-Georgia series has been streaky the last several years, which was kind of fun (except when the streak was against us or in 2006 when Tennessee became the second visitor to Athens to hang more than 50 points on us).
The Gamecocks have developed into an unusual rivalry, mostly as the bastard child of the existing rivalry with Florida due to hatred for all things Spurrier (payback is hell after beating the Gators out of what would have been their first ever SEC championship during Spurrier's Heisman season - they had to wait another 25 years until Spurrier coached them to their first championship, then later to running up the score in Athens (see Tennessee, above)).
Climpson used to be somewhat of a "silent" rivalry, I suppose. Georgia's 1980 and Clemson's 1981 seasons set up pretty fierce, bitter, and close games through the '80s. We still pop up on each other's schedules from time to time, but not as frequently as before.

Auburn's would definately be either Ole Miss or Arkansas.
The Arky series have shaped up nicely and Ole Miss is always tough since we got Tommy Tubberville.

For Arkansas, I would say Alabama & Auburn. The main reasons is that we all play in the west, thus play each other every year, and the records between both series are very even.

For FSU, I'd say Clemson...but I feel this game is really going to start picking up, and become a real rivalry...one could say the Bowden Bowl stuff made it a solid rivalry, but that seemed more like TV hype to me...
For LSU, probably Ole Miss....its certainly silent for the rest of the nation, but spending time at LSU, I can honestly say I hate Ole Miss more than any other SEC team...hotty toddy my ass!

Should we just go ahead and start it now?

I agree. Nothing to add. Just my first post here. Yay for me.
ALthough, the Iowa game gets pretty big every year.

Well, for Air Force it would have to Colorado St. Maybe Wyoming. But CSU seems to breed more contempt. You don't really hear about it much, though.

OK, then. It's go time!
Maryland fans are the crudest bunch of low-life idiots as I've ever been subjected to. Since the Mountaineers are no longer on the VT schedule, I'm glad we can stll play Maryland, so that we can make fun of fans who burn down their town after games.
(How'd I do getting things started?)

Duke seems to play great for 30 minutes and then they invite a collapse. All of a sudden, they can't score and everyone commmits fouls. Even the free throws don't fall in.

I would have to add in my two cents for the GT-VT series... winning in blacksburg last year sure helped out! 2-2 against each other all time. 1-1 in the opponent's stadium too!

Nice start, where did you find the time to post.....don't you have players to bail out of jail?

I take it then that LSU fans are not big supporters former Ole Miss QB and current NY Giants QB Eli Manning.
The Bowden Bowl between FSU and Clemson has a new wrinkle previously unaware to me.
