For 70 years, the Miami Hurricanes have called the place home. They will play their last game there on Saturday night, Nov. 10. The building is slated for demolition. But since Florida International still has three games left to play in the Orange Bowl on 11-17; 11-24; 12-1, Miami administrators and coaches are imploring fans not to tear the place apart quite yet. FIU is playing home games there in 2007 because they are renovating/expanding their stadium.
What's the best game you ever saw that was played in the Orange Bowl? Mine is the first National Championship won by the Hurricanes when Tom Osborne of Nebraska went for a two point conversion instead of kicking the extra point to tie up that Orange Bowl contest. If Nebraska and Miami end up tied, odds are Nebraska is voted #1 and claims the National Championship.

as you said, 1984 OB between Miami and Nebraska. In terms of historical significance in college football, not much can touch it. One of the best ever.
east carolina going in there in 1996 and thumping the canes 31-6. miami scored a td the first possession and after the mixed extra point, former head coach, and current boston college offensive coordinator, steve logan, sliced and diced the the canes d from that point on.

Flutie to Phelan (sp?) will always be an awesome moment. In the NFL the Jets over the Colts in Super Bowl III. The Chargers over the Dolphins in a playoff game following the 1981 season (Kellen Winslow was great). I also remember when Dan Marino and the Dolphins handed the 1985 Chicago Bears their only defeat on a Monday night.

That SD-Miami game is one of the greatest NFL games ever.
How bout the MNF Bears-Dolphins in '85? Da Bears, first, and only defeat.

...with the excellent jim simpson at the mike, NBC's coverage kept an 11 year old boy mesmerized way past beddtime ( school next day) for a game with all the trappings of greatness... a huge intersectional between two top 10 teams...a fast, pre-wishbone oklahoma team with bobby marmack at the controls of a basic pitch option offense agaisnt rugged sec champs tenneseee...both teams in home colors..that irresistible oklahoma fight song....back and forth they went...both offenses humming.....until a 52 yard tennessee field goal attempt by Vols Karl Kremser on the games very last play ( and back then, the very last play of the CF season, as sugar bowl , rose and cotton were daytime games) JUST MISSED and Oklahoma got the thrilling win to end the 1967 CF season....

That was probably the best one for me too, but UCLA played Miami one year they were 10-0 going in on a Dec Saturday because a hurricane had postponed it. I recall that being a pretty good game. Washington ending Miami's 58 game home win streak was memorable one, too.

My most recent memory down there was not a good one. In September 2003, Florida was up on Miami 33-10 mid 3rd Quarter...we lost 38-33.

I have a large, framed replica ticket and have autographs from Danny Ford, Terry Kinard, William Perry, Cliff Austin, Jeff Davis, but Homer eludes me.

There are some Tennessee players who swear that the field goal was good and that the officials missed it.

How about 1989 #1 Notre Dame playing at Miami? Miami in those days had as fierce of a rivalry with ND as anyone, anywhere.
The 3rd and 44 conversion to Randall Hill was amazing!

FSU has had some great games there...
They beat Nebraska in the Orange Bowl in 1992, and then beat them the following year in the Orange Bowl for the National Championship
FSU also played Notre Dame in a classic in the '96 Orange Bowl
Of course they've had some heartbreaking losses there at the hands of Miami, but let's not talk about that

Any Miami vs FSU game! Seeing the Canes and Noles at midfield, pregame, ready to fight......it's just never gonna be the same. Even if FSU and Miami get back into annual top 10 form, it just won't be the same without the Orange Bowl!
