Well, I saw The Golden Boy speak last night. He did a nice job but he didn't open up the floor for questions. He's really looking old these days. He drove up from Louisville at the invitation of former Moeller and ND coach, Gerry Faust. He donated his appearance fees and all proceeds from the sale of his book, etc. to the Sisters of Charity in Lousiville. He's also on a crusade to increase the pension for many of the football players who played in the NFL back in his era, apparently many of them are in bad shape physically and don't have much money. He said his monthly pension is $800.

you mean to tell me that the oldtimers' pension hasn't been amended? You'd think the players union would at least offer the new players a chance to contribute to a seperate dues account to help the oldtimers. I mean, c'mon, this new generation of player typically has more money than a 3rd world country. A little gratitude wold be nice to see.

Now I'm a socialist??? The rest of the board should get a kick out of this. Unless of course you just forgot to add a smiley face to your post. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.

On a serious note, the old timers laid the foundation for this new breed of football player that now makes more than Winston Howell the 3rd would ever dream of. That said, a *voluntary* contribution to the pension plan would be a nice gesture by this new generation. FWIW, anyone know what the retirement benefits are like for the newly retired? I'm doubting it's a measly $800 a month.
