A very unusual situation for the Wisconsin AT tOSU game.
Most know about Wisky Soph RB PJ Hill, who had a big year last year. He has been a bit banged up this year. Last week, he left in the first half of the blowout win over Indiana. No problem, as backup Lance Smith came in and finished off the game with 2 TDs. For the year, Smith is around 6 ypc, which is very solid for a backup.
Now, Wisky comes into Columbus. PJ Hill may go, may not. Obviously they'd love to have them, but if he can't go, Smith will be a fine replacement, right?
WRONG!!! Smith had some off the field problems during the offseason, and as punishment, is only allowed to play at Camp Randall.
The next leading rusher on the team is QB Tyler Donovan. They then have a frosh RB who's averaged about 3 carries a game. They do have highly recruited John Clay, but he's redshirting this year.
So what if Hill can't go? They have a frosh RB with little carries and a talented RB with no carries. It seems like a HUGE break for the Buckeyes.
I remember the 2002 toughed out a win in Camp Randall. The following year, they traveled there AGAIN and suffered their first loss in 20 something games. I remeber being a bit annoyed that they had to go there 2 years in a row.
In 2004, Wisky won at the SHoe. The the sheduling rotation took them off the schedule for 2 years. Now, after the hiatus, it is the second straight game at the Shoe in this series, albeit three years later.
Why was it scheduled like this? Is tOSU being "reinbursed" for 2 straight tough ones at Wisky? If Hill doesn't play, (or even if he goes but isn't 100%), will the lack of depth at RB be a deciding factor in the game? Who could've thought a 2003 scheduling quirk would have such a big impact on the 2007 MNC chase!!!
