A nice article by Stewart Mandel on NFL scouts and the combine...
To me, one word best describes the combine, and all the stupid NFL draft analysis.........overanalysis

Well, he came into a very important phase of the draft process, he knew it was important, and was still out of shape. That's gonna hurt anyone.

I do like Mandel's article. some of these scouts and analysts are a bunch of pencil necks who never played so much as high school football let alone collegiate and above.
However, Troy needs to get his a$$ in shape.

Mandel is terrible at analysis, and I won't argue if he has a point here or not, but I know that the NFL teams did well to ignore Tim Couch's and Jason White's college sucess. Smith's a risk, though most players are. He's got some serious upside that may make it worth the risk, though. My guess is that he won't suceed in the NFL.
in the NFL draft? How does that translate to the NFL ignoring his college stats?
I have no idea if Troy Smith will make it in the NFL or not. what I do know is people have doubted this kid and he's proven them wrong more often than not. He seems to thrive on proving people wrong. I think he'll be a first day draft pick and will get a shot to start in the NFL. After that its up to him. But if he doesn't make it I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up doing college football commentary - he's very well spoken and definitely knows the game. Either way, Troy Smith has a great future ahead of him.

And as we all know, he's just not the QB that Shaun Carney is. :D
